Keeley or Monte Allums? Or even the pricey Analogman mod?!

I've read reports of so many people loving the Keeley, but almost as many saying it's not that good. The same goes for the Monte Allums mods.

Anyway, I'm tempted to get my BD-2 modded and my guts telling me the Keeley. Anyone A/B tested any BD-2 mods?

Oh, and I'm using a Fender amp and single-coil pups.

Hi snufkino

I think the the Monte vs Keeley vs Indy etc topic, was covered a few years ago.
I'll have a bit of a look for it.

Tone is such a personal & subjective thing,
I guess in the end, it's really up to the individual, to make the final decision.

I've tried em all, and don't like any of them, that much.

I mainly play Teles through an old Vibrolux Reverb, so our gear is probably a little similar.

At least Analogman openly admits that the tone control on the BD-2 is very limited, even with modifications.

Keeley and Analogman both concur that the stock capacitors leave much to be desired.

I've been working on this pedal heavily for the past two weeks, and am getting closer to something that is usable throughout the drive range, without getting too bright, and without having too much gain. It's involved more work than any of the modders would probably ever hope to offer, and I actually remove a bunch of parts!

You've also left out Brian Wampler (Indyguitarist), who modded Brent Mason's BD-2.

I find a stock BD-2 to be very devoid of any personality, and the mods that are offered for it don't seem to do much to address those, IMO. Any OD pedal that has really flat response is just going to be uninspiring, modded or not, IMO.

I think that Boss really got the OD-3 right, and I'm borrowing the best parts of that to tweak my BD-2. It should be done in another week or two.

Hi MoonWatcher
Slightly off topic
Have you tried the Digitech "Bad Monkey"?

Hi Dr. Bob -

Yep - tried the Monkey. Not too bad, but I typically don't like "improved TS variants" with active eq stuff.

That said, I have a Reverend Drivetrain II which is awesome. It's also not SMD construction like the Monkey.
