Hi. I've just bought a MIJ DF-2. Now, a lot of what I can find says that they are a DS-1 with an additional circuit. I have a DS-1 (MIJ - silver screw- and I have had previous MIT and MIJ as well) and this does not sound anything like any DS-1. It's rough, chunky distortion, which I think is a bit ordinary.
Anyone have anything to say on this? Can anyone confirm that they are meant to be DS-1s, in which case mine is either not working or someone has modded it.
My MIT DS-1's sounded worse than my DF-2. It sounds like a good DS-1 but is lacking a little in the lowend. It doesn't have the icepick treble that a stock MIT DS-1 has to my ears.
I dont think it sounds very similar to DS-1, DS-1 (mine is an early MIT) sounds better. I dont like the distortion-sound of DF-2 that much, but the sustain-thing is very nice to have around. With a little practice youll learn how to go around the abrupt ending of the sustained note.
To me the DF-2 has it own distortion flavor. It's got more distortion than an MIJ/MIT DS-1, and more bass. It also doesn't have the pearcing high end that the DS-1's tend to have.
I've actually been using it a lot. You're spot on saying it doesn't sound like a DS-1 but once you get used to it it is genuinely useable. Lots more grunt than my silver screw DS-1 and a bit rougher. Which is good.
