I already have two of those machines. You know, just incase the first one breaks.
But maybe this is the sign that luthers aren't doing a good job. I know the luther that's well known around here where I live, he does a horrible job yet people still go to him. I had my guitar reparied by him once when I was younger, I couldn't believe how terrible he messed it up; dropped the neck pickup into the body which he laso did to my friend's guitar, lowered the entire bridge so every string buzzed like crazy and yet didn't bother setting the intonation now that he messed with the bridge and never smoothed the side of the frets like I had asked.
That is why I've taught myself to repair my own gear. I personally don't need some man or machine to do what I know is best for the guitars I have used for years. |

The PLEK is $250,000 at least. A local store is purchasing one (and already a licensed user, with the logo on their business card), and I found some details out..
Gibson's been using these in the Custom shop since 04 or 05, a this year all the Les Paul Standards and Traditionals receive a plek treatment.
The company recommends that you charge up to $500 per customer guitar which gets the plek treatment. A good luthier should charge $200 for the same work - if they know what they're doing, they should come up with a very similar result. IMO. |
