Hi folks
Are any of you good people able to tell me a good place for (preferably) a simple cap change in the BD-2 that will tame the highs a little?
I like this pedal, it seems to have a rich tone and quite a neutral tone shape to it but there's a little too much high end for my liking, a little too icy and not valve amp like enough.
Thanks to cctsim's advice regarding C14 and quite a few other experiments I think I have the OD-3 where I want it. Again I tamed the highs on that a little too although mine is running a different op amp so that's no reflection on the stock pedal.
To me the OD-3 sounds quite like a British amp, Marshall, Hiwatt etc, quite middley, whereas the BD-2 sound more like a Fender amp. Any comments on that observation?

I would swap directly C19 and C101, essentially, C19 becomes 18 nF and C101 5.6 nF.
Let us know how it turns if you try it.
BD-2 sounds a lot like a Fender amp since it has a fixed fender tone stack after the first gain stage. |

Having discovered that C101 is up with the controls and being a bit lazy this evening I opted just to change C19, your post helped me to realise that this forms a low pass filter with R26. I have put in a 10nf which by reckoning and using the link below is cutting the highs at around 2.8k instead of 5k. This seems to have done the trick for now thanks, I can always try a higher value later if it doesn't work out but at the moment I think it's the one, retains the Fendery sparkle (with a Strat) of the pedal without the really high stuff that sounds unnatural. Personally I find way too much treble in all the Boss overdrives and distortions stock.
Of course this creates a new problem, which one to put on my board, the OD-3 or the BD-2? I like them both pretty equally now for their different tones and clipping characteristics.
