Check this out: http://www.ampmaker.com/index.asp
Here's the 18W page: http://www.ampmaker.com/ak03x.asp
& its associated construction manual: http://www.ampmaker.com/pp18guide/pp18kc.asp
Excellent parts, presentation, documentation, & pictures! It would be ideal for those electronics newbies. Hell, it'd be great for the rest of us too!
Unfortunately the guy isn't feeling up to snuff right now so these amp kits are unavailable. He also has a 5W so keep his link in hopes he'll come back! |

Hi DeFrag
Nice link... Do you think this was part of the AX84 valve amp project, that has been around on the web for a while now?
I like the pics of the completed amps, by their respective builder-owners, especially the first one, made from recycled floor boards.

These guys are the go-to people for DIY amp kits in the UK, although they do lots of other things too (valve reverb units, and so on).. They also run workshops for those in the UK:

I think they ship worldwide, too.
The best DIY valve kit I ever saw was sold by Guitar and Bass Magazine in the UK. The little valve amp they sold was one of these:

It was a little before everyone realised that small valve amps were wonderful things. I wish I'd bought one!
What I have done (and what you can still do) is one of their DIY pedal kits. There's a Germanium Treble Booster, Germanium Fuzz, Parallel Compressor and Phaser/Vibrato.
