I bought recently a new DS1 pedal which I fancy quite alot. While
playing with different settings I noticed that the level pot doesn't turn the sound completely off.

Is this normal behavior for the DS1. In my other boss pedals (the CS3 for example) no sound comes out when the level is off.

Best Regards
Harris

Hi....i wouldn't of thought so...maybe the knob is misaligned with the pot....try taking it off turning the shaft with your fingers to zero and if this works just make sure you put the knob back with the line on it at the zero mark...i have an old DS1 lying around i will try to check it for you later, but i then i don't think i've ever turned a distortion or overdrive pedal to zero before..........

It's not likely I will ever use the Level 0 setting. I am just worried there is something wrong with the pot and is not working the way it should.

Is a faulty pot covered by the five year waranty period?

Anyone with similar experience ?

Best Regards

Hi cctsim, welcome to the forum, I tried my MIT DS-1 and with the level turned all the way counterclockwise the sound still gets through. In fact, it still gets through with all three knobs turned to their lowest setting, so I would say this is normal.

Hi guys,

The reason is behind that the cold pin of the pot is connecting not to ground (0 V) but to half of supply voltage (a filtered 4.5 V) and because of this point is not really zero in alternating current point of view therefore a few percentage of the signal can go through of this pot however!
It can be a logical explanation!

cheers

Looking at the schematic, it looks like a logical explanation, although it is still a strange kind of functionality.

Thanks a lot guys. It saved me the trip to the shop and the embarrasment there trying to return it.

I was curious when I read this, so I checked all 7 of my DS-1's.
6 of them are Taiwan made and they all leaked sound when the Level pot was turned down all the way.
My one Japanese pedal barely did, but did.
I never noticed that before.
