I've been looking around and still can't decide which one I'm gonna get. It's either gonna be the PQ-4 (this one I'm already leaning towards) or the GEB-7 or the GE-20 twin pedal. So which one do you think is the best?

Jilty, I can't comment on the GEB-7 or the GE-20, but I really like my PQ-4. it will effectively give you all of the benefits of onboard active eq at the stomp of a footswitch, allowing you to pre-set a specific tone for leads, etc. my PQ-4 is so far my most expensive pedal, at about $110 US, but it's been worth it (I don't really have the disposable income, but I found and bought a mint PQ-4 for $65 delivered as a backup.)

in defense of the GEB-7 and GE-20, those are still made and should be available to try out at yr local music store. give 'em a try and if either one gives you the tone-shaping capability you need, if it makes your ears happy, then there's no need to seek out a PQ-4....

I like the simplicity of a graphic EQ and has usually some problems adjusting parametric EQs correctly. I think the GE-7 is my best equalizer. I still pick out my PQ-4 and PQ-3B regularly but much to often I don't have enough control with which frequencies I'm adjusting and how wide my filter is.

Jilty do you have any experience with Parametric EQ's?

I like em a lot, but it may take a little time to get used to them.

Heh, it is not all that hard, think of a Parametric Eq as a Wah Wah, a wah you set to a specific frequency. You could play a chord, push down your wah and set it to a frequency you like most [or is best suited to your particular need at that vary moment]

That in a nutshell is what a Parametric Eq does, and should not take to long to get used to. Overal they are more subtle that the graphic EQ, I'd like to see them as "problemsolvers" they can just boost or cut a particular frequency without changing to much of the overal tone.

Perhaps you should get a Parametric and a Graphic as they both have their own functions and applications.

I do not own the PQ-4, didn't even know Boss did one, that is, off course, before I discovered this wonderful site full of usefull info.

Perhaps a Parametric may be more needed when you do a lot of recording, doing gigs a Grahic may be a little easier to tweak, as you can see what is going on, whereas with a Parametric you really need to listen. Try this during a gig where there is a ton of other sounds around you, and audience which needs attention and you know how much time there is left for fine-tuning your precious guitarsound...............

I have never owned a EQ. The main reason why I want one is to cut my signal. I got the idea from the boss book CD, the SP-1 sample sounded amazing with fast riffs. I think I might look into getting the PQ-4 first (if I can find it) and then the GEB-7. I wanna get some twin pedals (I currently own zero) because they can do more then the compact pedals, but theres 3 things I don't like about twin pedals, there big and take up alot of space, there not as cute as the compact pedals, and most the time they are more expensive.

Jilty I have seen a PQ-4 on either Ebay.com or Ebay.co.uk, was about 2 to 3 days ago, did not make a note of the itemnumber nor did I leave it in my own account, just check if it is still there, you may be in for a surprise there.....................

I really don't like the idea of a pedal that does A/D conversion and back to D/A conversion on the same signal at the output. They could have gotten away with analog EQ circuitry that is digitally controlled. Also, even if I was okay with it, considering that they have all of these digital pedals, they really sould be connecting them with S/PDIF rather than guitar cables, and then do the D/A conversion on last step.

Actually, if you look on the Roland US website, they put the Twin Pedals in a subcategory of the compact pedals. Hmm.

I own a GE-7 and absolutely swear by it! I love the "thought" of parametric eq's, but having that "knob-on-knob" thing like the pq4 always pisses me off. Tweaking on the fly on that would be too cumbersome.

Here's my two takes on the GE-7: I can use it on ANYTHING to get TONE. Case in point is my acoustic setup. I never get good "house sound" unless I'm using my GE-7. You know what it sounds like? MY GUITAR! I don't believe in "acoustic" pedals, processors, amps or otherwise.

The other case: If you get your EQ dialed in, then push the level just a litle bit, you now have a nice clean boost. Push it a notch past that, and you can get a good breakup that produces real overdrive! Don't push too hard though, just make it break up a little. You could blow your speaker!

Its been a while since this thread started. Did you get an EQ pedal?
If so, which one did you get, and what do you think of it?
I have become a member of the PQ-4 appreciation club lately myself...

A parametric EQ takes some more time to get used to, and its easier to see what youre doing on a GE-7. It took some time fiddling with the PQ-4 to get the sound I wanted, but once you get the hang of it and understand the knobs and what they do its easy.

I actually like the GE-6 better than the GE-7. They only made them for like 20 minutes, but they rule.

I still haven't got one yet. I'm looking at getting the GE-7 pretty soon. I tried it at GC and it did what I wanted it to. If I can get a PQ-4 I'll get that instead but people are insane on ebay and I'm just a poor gal so I can't pay what others can.
