I've been playing around trying to get something that sounds just like the lead in this classic at around 3:00

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1sf2CzEq0w

Looking to see if someone has actually pulled this exact tone out of a Boss pedal(s), and if so... are you willing to share how you did it?

I checked out some of the live versions as well..the lead guitar seems to be using the back humbucker on his guitar ..it sounds to me anyway that he has the tone control rolled off a bit as well to fatten up the sound .. so if your trying to replicate it with a Boss pedal i defo would go for an overdrive rather than a distortion for that smooth, fat tone...i reckon something like my OD-2 in turbo mode would not be too far off....volume 100% tone 60% and drive(turbo on) about 75%.. also on some of the later live versions it sounds like he added some chorus on one version from the 80's and one from 2008 he added some delay to fatten out the lead sound even more..

never heard this tune before....nice one........

It's a classic.
I've still got (and sometimes play) the vinyl album, Cut, that this track is from.
The album version of Twilight Zone is a bit longer than the single version too.

+1

I would use a little less drive & put it in front of an overdriven amp.

I would think a blues driver could do that tone

it's interesting..sounds pretty dry for a lead tone from the 80s

I agree..some kind of OD with the tone up, but the guitar's tone down.

What did you do there, work?

And yes, Toto is an amazing band, I saw them live in '07 and they kicked some serious butt.

Yep they were appearing at a few venues when i was there but i didn't manage to get to see them except on a live recording on the TV.... i was on a career break travelling around and a friend on mine lived there at the time so i ended up staying for a while and picking up some casual work to tide me over... good fun....beautiful in the summer but very cold in the winter....

Yup, that sounds like Holland

I was 14 at that time, so I didn't know about the Golden Earring.
At that age, that kind of music was something from the past
Boy was I wrong, these days I even play older stuff than that with my classic rockband.
