I liked ph-1, but a 4 stage classic phaser for me is usefull in a very few situations. I like even more ambient/strange sounds of ph-2. The point is, I have no one of them at the moment, and I'm thinking about ph-3 as the only phaser I saw which can change mods from classic 4 stage up to 12. Reviews are not so good as for the other 2, and it's completely digital so the questions are: for my need (a very wide range phaser at resonable price) looks fine but sound is really so bad as someone sad? Generate hum? Sound is fake? Thanks. |

| I like it. But tbh, I havnt tried any other phaser out. It sounds a bit fake, but I kinda like it. Sounds like some crazy synth with my mega distortion treble high. But i like it :) |

I have a Boss RPH-10 phaser from the microrack series, which is switchable up to 12 stages (there are more details in the list on the main site here). It's analogue, sounds great, but isn't a pedal, which might be a problem for you.
Here's a demo (download mp3) of a Roland Juno 6 with a touch of Lexicon reverb, first on its own, then through the Behringer CC300 (Dimension C copy) and RPH-10 set to 12-stage.

I've owned a MIJ PH-1r, MIJ and MIT PH-2, and a PH-3. the PH-1r is my favorite, but is only a 4-stage phaser. the MIJ PH-2 sounded marginally better (more "organic"?) than the MIT PH-2, but they were very close, so I sold my MIT PH-2.
IMHO, the PH-3 was not noisy, but did sound somewhat "fake" ("cold" and brittle/digital-sounding). while it was very versatile, it had a relatively steep learning curve for a pedal (hence the thickness of its manual). I ended up selling my PH-3 on eBay, and have not regretted it. |

there tends to be an inverse relationship between versatility and sound quality.
jack of all trades, master of none tends to be the trend with over-tweakable pedals.
that being said, if your primary concern is looking for weird sounds and versatility, it may work out as long as you can accept that it won't sound as good.
ollie: yes, it is good. |

you wanna hear a good boss phaser? run two ph 1 in series ( just normal plugin) youll get eight stages of thick transperant( real sounding) phaser. Delicious. Ive never tried doing this in parallel...has anyone ever run any boss pedals in parallel?

i should have specified that you have to match the rate, and if you want, the depth knobs. this is easy to do, easier than i thought ... best sounding phaser i ever heard, thick deep swoosh..whisper quiet..fantastic.

I ran two DD-3's off the stereo outputs of a CH-1 for a while going into two different amps with with short and long delays.... great sound but turning two delay pedals off in a hurry like this was a bit of a disaster on a gig,now i run one into the other in mono controlled in a loop by a LS-2...still sounds good to me,i run the CE-2 into the BF-2 in series sometimes for really thick swirly sounds,if i had the time i would try putting them in parallel off the stereo outs of a delay or some other pedal going to two different amps to see what it sounded like or maybe a phaser or tremolo instead with the chorus... |

I have all Boss phasers and like PH-1R the most, but I also like PH-3 a lot and finds its the one I use very often. Its very versatile and there are many new phaser-sounds that are usable if you like experimenting. I think that Boss made a quite good and fine phaser with PH-3.

| Can anyone comment on PH-1 vs PH-1r? Are they really basically the same pedal, but with the one knob addition? |

Dingus:
the PH-1r is more versatile, but the PH-1 is warmer/rounder sounding and a lot more subtle.
i had both but decided to keep the PH-1 and shipped my PH-1r up to laurie in canada. |

Svengali ... you have GOT to record that and put that somewhere on the internet so I can here it... maybe a youtube video clip or something free like that.... please do that for us, it sounds like its complete killer the way you describe it... |
