I recently bought a 2nd hand GTPro and I've found it has intermittent noise added when going through the effects section of the unit.
The noise is like a crackly speaker. The intermittent noise seems to not be triggered by heat or cold or how long the unit has been on or off. Just pure random - but once the noise is there it won't go away till I wait for a day or so. Initially I thought it was getting magnetized by the speakers but I've now got the GTPro sitting in a room by itself with just a guitar plugged in the input and listening to the output via headphones to eliminate as much external stuff as I can.
*) I've tried various input sources (guitar, cd, etc) and various input cables to eliminate these as the problem. *) I've listened to the output from the phono, main, sub, effects send 1 and 2 outputs and all have the same noise. *) I say it's the effects section because in bypass/tuner mode the output sound is crystal clear *) The output is clear from the pre-loop send *) If I feed the input into the effects return 1 or 2 the output is noisy. *) I've even tried turning off all the electrical equipment in the house including fluro lighting and still noisy.
So from input to the pre-loop it's clean and then from the effects section and effects loop to the outputs it's noisy (even with no effects turned on and the preamp turned off).
Any ideas what could be wrong. Sounds almost like a dry solder joint or a capacitor breaking down. |

Hi chewyanimal
Welcome to the forum from Australia (as well).
GT-Pro is a very sophisticated bit of gear.
Do you know if the GT-Pro is still under warranty? You might be able to get it serviced by a Roland service centre.
Did you buy the unit knowing it was faulty? Are you able to get compensation from the seller, or if it was a paypal-Evilbay deal, you might be eligible for a refund.
I am not aware of anyone here having a service manual for the GT-PRo.
Have you looked inside the unit to see in anything is really obvious with the unit? Maybe the EPROM's were fitted poorly.
Regards Dr. Bob

Hi Dr Bob, I bought the GT-Pro from eBay with a Behringer FB1010 midi controller for $850 that was described as "mint condition" which would have been a bargain if it worked all the time :) I've contacted the seller who obviously says they never had any noise issue with it. It's out of warranty so my options are
*) Open the case and clean out the dust, check for eproms not pushed in correctly and then try some Freeze Spray to check if cooling some of the components makes a difference. *) Try and send it back to the seller and get my money back. *) Take it to Watson Electronics at Sumner Park who are the authorised dealers for Roland/Boss gear in Brisbane.
I'll let you know what eventuates.
Cheers, Shane. |
