| Hi im a 19 year old girl guitarist :D in a punk rock band. My mt-2 pedal doesnt work and i really need it fixed by next weekend. The V9, cables, amp, guitar all work correctly. When i plug the cables in they can bypass the pedal without any problems, but when i click down on the pedal to turn it on, it gets really really quiet. The red light is on, but the only way to hear the distortion is to turn the level up all the way on the pedal, and turn the volume all the way up on my amp. Can anyone help me? |

G'day OC! I have had mine apart a lot modding it... I can help for sure but probably not in any depth until tomorrow.
Couple of initial dumb questions: 1) how bright is the red light? 2) have you tried it on a fresh battery?
What you have described would normally occur if the battery was almost flat.
If the battery is OK and the light is bright, does the output change if you gently wiggle the plug in the output jack? (sometimes dirty connectors can cause these symptoms - a quick spray of contact cleaner can fix it)
If it isn't any of these things, it will be something a bit more technical inside the pedal...

Hi orangecrush9557
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
The MT-2 isn't a real hog when it comes to power consumption at 20 plus mA, but it does draw about 4-5 times that of a DS-1 & SD-1.
As Laurie has already mentioned, Try a KNOWN GOOD Alkaline 9V battery.
If you are using solely 9V batteries? Do you disconnect the lead from the input socket, as that's how all Boss pedals turn on & off. (same goes for most other brands of pedals as well)
So if you leave your guitar lead permanently plugged into the input of the MT-2 it will flatten the battery.
Does it work with/the power adapter. If you are using a power adapter, what type & Brand is it?
If none of the above questions are relevant. What may have happened to the MT-2 before is started to play up?
Also consider that you may have an intermittent cable.
Good Luck - hope we were of some help.
Regards Dr. Bob |

Hi orangecrush9557
As per out standard request, please post some internal pictures. We might be able to help you out some more.
You never answered the question about; Did anything happen to the pedal before it went faulty?

Some internal pics would help. If everything is quiet check for any internal wires or parts shorting together.
I repaired a problem which sounds similar on a Marshall acoustic amp a while ago, where all volumes had to be turned up on a particular channel in order to hear anything. I traced the problem to a dual op-amp(NE5532) in that channels pre-amp section. Oddly just one of the op-amps in the package had stopped functioning correctly, signal in to signal out did not correspond to how it should have with its respective resistor gain set network.
Check obvious things as suggested in the other replies like loose or broken wires or shorts in the internals first.
