Hello --
Curious about the BR-8 recorder. I looked at the product description over in bossarea dot com, but still had questions. I noticed that it uses 100 MB Zip disks as a media, so how old is the product? What are the specs for recording quality compared to CD (ie oversampling rate) and can you take a digital out to record to CD-R?
Finally, what are these units worth, approxiamtely, in this day and age?
A lady has one which she would like to barter for firewood, along with some sort of Crate Amp !!
Thanks Disco Stu |

Hi Disco Stu
If you get them, please Send pictures of the Lady. (it's an old joke, from a personals column, but it was a boat).

Any sort of recording system not involving a computer is dated. Roland discontinued the entire VS line a little while a go and they were pretty good recorders. I wish they would have kept at least one of the VS recorders going. I don't like the Boss recorders because they can only record 16 bits and 44.1 KHz. The Roland VS series got up to 24 bits and 96 KHz. I guess if you are only giving the lady some wood and Crate it might be an alright deal. |

Thanks for your replies. The 16-bit / 44.1 oversampling is some of the info I was curious about. It can't possibly fit many minutes of eight track recording on a 100 MB Zip disk!!
Mainly I'm curious whether anyone here has played with one, the sort of results obtained, how are the effects, that sort of thing.
As for the 'wood' it's all premium-quality seasoned hardwood: maple, oak, locust, elm, walnut. The Crate amp I'm not too sure about but I believe it is a practice amp with an eight-inch speaker... |
