I will try an get a pic of the serial. Yes, it seems like its some kind of transitional type. It must have lasted only a short period, maybe a few months, until the two letter serial took over.

I got a DSD-3 in the mail this morning.
Serial number A981936, Sans serif font, blue label, Made in Japan, Manual printed Feb. 88.

So what's the deal with the "A" prefix on the DC-3s? A friend is putting his DC-3 on eBay, serial A950369, and I told him about this thread...he'd like to have accurate info before posting. Thanks Bossarea.

It's hard to say. Best guess is that they ran out of serial numbers and had to come up with an emergency solution to use before the new 2 letter, 5 number system was introduced March 1989.

That's still just guessing though

What did you pay? I found one for �80 ish in a shop recently, didn't know if that was cheap or not... not that I can afford it at the mo', maybe next month..

This would seem like a plausible answer, because it lasted a very short period. Perhaps pedals with this type of serial gets a collectability factor some day...
