Hi guys,

I have a problem with two BD-2, one totally silent turned on and off, second one does bypass only, diodes are lightning up ok, and sure there is no problem with battery/power supply, there is current on board. In both cases I suppose it is burned opamp, one probably burned by me touching board on working unit(this one does bypass) second one probably burn by other kind of short.
Can someone tell me what is exact type of opamp in this pedal? Are there any alternaties to original opamp? I am also considering 2xNE5532 like Monte does but it is not easy to get dip to sip base.
Thanks for help and comments.

The opamp is a 5218AL. You can use any dual opamp with standard pin-outs (eg 4558L).

These guys have them:

Ok I have 100% sure that in one of this broken BD-2 the problem is opamp, when I plug it and play and when I set all knobs to max I can hear very quiet sound when unit is turned on, when turned off sound is bypassed ok.

Second unit do not give anything except brum noise at all knobs set to max I can hear it very loud, and level and gain knobs are increasing volume level so it seems opamp is ok, when turned off bypass in not working, total silent, no guitar sound at all. Can someone tell me if it can be some of the transistors and which ones?

Thanks

Hi leslav80

Were you trying to modify it?

Or did it just accidentally short out when you had it open,
with power applied?

Regards Dr. Bob

You hear something when you crank the amp all the way, are you sure the output is soldered ok and to the right lug?

Both were working ok, the short was by accident, no modifications had been done, I didn't know that this opamp is so sensitive and that will breake if I touch it.

Second one broke during some cabel operations done by my friend, mayby he made short between positive ground of power supply to negative ground of instrument cable.

R.G Keen's www.geofex.com website is a great resource for learning about & working on guitar effects.

His debugging page is here:

His guitar effects FAQ is here:

Also, a good video on how to solder is here:
