I bought a (new) Boss DD-3 pedal. It only works when Mode switch is in 'L' (200-800 mS) and in 'Hold'. In 'M' and 'S' position I get no delay effect. Funny thing is, I have the exact same problem with an older (2nd hand) DD-2. Anyone recognize this problem? Help appreciated!

G'day and welcome!

I've seen this before a couple of times and it usually has one of several causes - incorrect voltage is the most common. Have you tried it on a known good battery? If you are using a power supply and it isn't a Boss PSA you will have problems guaranteed.

Other possibilities are the on/off switch has failed, or the mode switch has failed.

Hi Haye

Welcome to the forum from Australia.

You mention that you bought this pedal "New"

I would suggest that you return the unit, & get an exchange for a working one.
Or at least get your money back.

Thx a lot, guys. Bought it in the US, only to find it was failing after I came back home
Used a new battery (came with one), but will try the Boss adapter as well.
Thx again,
Haye
