I just wanted to comment on Math Rock, don't most sorts of music involve counts and counting, essentially math, so you can almost say all forms of music can me called math (whatever the genre is). To me its like saying that a baseball player is a "contact hitter", all hits must be made from contact or are there non-contact hitters. I know its nitpicking, its just something I thought I'd bring up to confuse and fuel the discussion.

Sorry, been away for the holidays, kind of going through a spaz out on forums phase....

Hi Jack
You're right, it's all pure mathematics
But we must never forget, that within all this pure math,
we have a human emotion called FEELING.

When you apply, the feeling, to the pure math, it's becomes the wonderful thing that we call music.

In our Western culture, we have 12 notes per octave.
the mathematical relationship (difference from note to note) between the notes is:

12 root of 2 -- like the square root of 4 -- or root 4
allowing for some rounding errors.

Each individual note, can be broken down into 100 divisions, called CENTS ---- like in dollars & cents.
Which would be 12 root of 2 divided by 100
which is a very small number.

I have read that a trained concert musician can hear if they are out of tune, by as little as 10 cents.

I know, it's like

But remember, that's what you are doing, with feeling, every time you go & jam.

Anyone else like to expanded or correct me, on all of this, you are welcome.
So next time you play with some friends, don't say go up a semitone,
ask them to go up by the 12 root of 2

Regards Dr. Bob
I know Stratosphere, you're going to tell me to get a life.

I play drums for a post-rock band.
I play guitar in a ambient/harsh noise duet.
I enjoy progressive metal, mathcore, and The Mars Volta (experimental prog-latin?).

Awesome, with different intervals the music could become very different.
I remember reading a book once called the science of music by Jeans. He referred to someone doing an experiment where 2 tones were played simultaneously and a panel answered which combinations were pleasant and which were not. The experiment showed that there are combinations of tones that harmonize but can't be produced with the 12 tone scale.

And if you find some music of Sonido 13, bring here the link, Alien DNA, ok?
I think it will be very hard to find, as Wikipedia says, he lived about 100 years ago. I found very unlikely that someone have recorded and uploaded music using Sonido 13 strictly.
Maybe there is a task for one of you...
