It's strange - looking at that pic reminds me of how me and my co-worker used to organise the double-decker Boss pedal display before we had any idea of 'proper effect order'. We used the 'ROYGBIV' colour order, and set it up like that.
It wasn't until a few months later we aquired a new staff member who just got off the road with Julian Austin. He took one look at the display and started laughing hysterically, and explained the whole 'proper effect order' approach.
I mean, it almosted worked, except for the compressor being after the chorus, and the metal zone coming after the RV-3, if I'm remembering it right... and that was just the first row.... ok, maybe it was a complete failure... 
I'm hope my knowledge of tone has grown slightly in the last 5 years...
