Picked up a Boss FZ-2 (with an Arion SCO-1 Compressor) for AUD$70 shipped. I thought it was quite cool - not nearly as abrasive as I'd expected, but real smooth. I was expecting something gated, and harsh. The upper octave element was wild Mode 1 was kinda similar to the FZ-3, but with octave. I think the Level pot was bad because in both fuzz modes there was this underlying static sort of noises that you get with a bad connection that wasn't present at all in the treble boost mode (where the level knob doesn't function). I thought of cleaning it but they wanted $20 for a bottle of contact cleaner at the local electronics store, so I passed it on to someone else (letting them know of the problem of course, unlike the guy who I bought it off).

Hi RRV-10
I saw the Arion compressor on EvilBay
What does it sound like?

What VCA chip does it use? maybe something like BA6110 or
LA39000 or NE571...?

I was it was $60Au BIN

Happy Easter mate.
Did you ever fix the LPB-1 clone, the one that was popping fuses on you PSA adapter?

Regards Dr. Bob

Hi Bob. It sounds ok. Not as good as a CS-2 but if you only use compression every once in a while it's a cheap little unit to have lying around. I just tried opening it up but it's a bit difficult to flip the circuitboard over to see the components as everything (jacks, AC jack, probably pots too) appear to be surface mount. If you're interested I'll send it to you for a 'road test' and you can see what you think.

I haven't had the time to look at the LPB-1 yet . Happy Easter to you too. HS

I got my second DM-2 last week

This one starts oscillating very early. Basically, whenever I turn the intensity past 2 o'clock. It has the type3 label and the serial # is 147200.

The sound is totally dm2-like, so I don't think that it has been tampered with.

This is the analog delay to have

Cheers

P.S.: Bossarea, here are some serial numbers of pedals that I have at my dorm: RV-5 #BT37384; SD-2 #ZF08738; PQ-4 #ZC44311; RV-2 #845214; I hope this helps

If it's a big problem you could try adjusting the repeats trimpot (i.e NOT the clock driver which alters the delay time and apparently renders any DM-2 irreparable). I did this on an old Ibanez AD100 delay as it started self-oscillating at around 11 o'clock on repeats dial

I just picked up an AW-2
in mint condition, from a local but obscure dealer.

He had $99Au on it, but as I was about to leave, he offered it to me for $50Au.
Done deal, I didn't even wait a heart beat to say ok.

I wasn't looking for one, it was just there, he told me that he imported it from Japan, & that it had been in his glass display case for quite some time.

I forgot to ask if it came with a box & manual, I guess I'll have to visit him again.

It seems to really brighten (Sparkle) up the Black Strat.
it almost puts a Tele bridge pickup twang on it.

Ok now guys, any chance of some of your secret AW-2 settings?

I know that the T-Wah is considered very highly, so what's the general opinion about the AW-2

Regards Dr. Bob

And for Bossarea

Silver label - Silver S/N sticker
Black thumb Screw - MIT
Serial CI73759
Almost minty about 9.8/10

Doesn't even have any magic gig dust on it.
And NO VELCRO.
Just a bit of wear on the Grommet.

Regards Dr. Bob

Many thanks for the advice, rrv-10. I opened it up to check, but seeing the insides of the pedal I lost all courage to tamper with it I tried it out again and the oscillation is not that bad. I think I am gonna leave it as it is.

I also seized the opportunity to check what version of DM-2 I have: it is the first "DM-2" version. All the information on the website on the pedal tallies with mine:

- PCB: ET 5214-510
- BBD: MN 3005
- Clock: MN 3101

The compander IC dates back to "8152". This would date it 1981, but what month?

Hi ununtrium
The date code on IC's is typically Year-Week
so you are correct in it being 1981 and it's week 52 or that year.

But that is the date on the IC, not the actual DM-2, the chips may have been in storage for a while.

So the IC is from around December 1981 some time.

Just won a EV-10 expression pedal off of evilbay. Now i use it for the ps-5 whammy (dive bomb!!!) and also it can act as a wah for the ft-2.
And a plethora of other boss pedals with ev outputs
Funny how the manuals refere to the ev-5, guess it was the less popular plastic version.

i was watching that EV-10

i just won a mint OD-2 with box and paperwork for 60USD. ill sell the one i have now.

im on a kick of only buying pedals with boxes lately. if i can find a pedal i already have and it comes with box, ill buy it, and sell the boxless one i already had. most of the time i will break even and get a box out of the deal

Too bad Boss didn't sell just plain pedal boxes, with a Boss logo splashed across it or something.
Be great for just storing the pedals neatly. Or does anyone know of a substitute that can be used?

I've tried a couple times to email Bossarea but get the VBSript error
and I thought it was my works firewall earlier.
Its a 1994 copy instead of the original 1970's copy.
Guess the really only new info would be the eight sample setting.
I'll just type them out for us all...

Hi ChristoMephisto & Guys
I just PM, a PDF version of the 1994 DS-1 manual that ChristoMephisto scanned for us.
I also took the examples settings, that were on two separate pages, did a cut & paste, & made a new "All on one page settings" page.
it makes it a bit easier, if our just looking for some sample settings, & if you just want to print it all out on one page.

I guess it's the secret Greenie in me, trying to save paper & trees.
I guess I just came out of the GREENIE Closet .. Not the other one. Oh dear, what will my mum have to say..

I guess it's now up to Bossarea, to post the PDF on the manuals page.
Thanks again ChristoMephisto.

Regards Dr. Bob
