Time to grab the AC-2 now then?
I wonder if this is because the cheap Behringer is so bloody good and they feel a bit threatened? The added reverb is a nice touch. |

It's the first new compact pedal in 2 years so maybe it's time to celebrate
Still... I'm somewhat disappointed that Boss decided to introduce COSM into the compact pedal series. Had hoped they'd keep that technology in the twin pedal series instead. I don't have anything against modelling but I like to keep the different technologies separated in different series of units.
It's probably going to be better than the AC-2. With the AC-2 most of the time was spent tweaking the sound. The AC-2 can sound good but it takes work to get there. With modelling, it is probably going to be a lot easier to get a good acoustic sound.
I'm also a bit disappointed that we only got one new pedal. Where's the CE-6 with tap tempo and stereo in? Where's the VB-3 follow-up to the VB-2? Where's the RM-1 Ring Modulator?
Apart from the AC-3 Boss also announced the BR-600 micro studio and the RC-50 Loop Station. The RC-50 has been out for a while and we have a thread about it already so all in all I think it's a rather disappointing NAMM.
The web pages will be updated soon. |

I was also hoping for a ring mod. Or a dedicated leslie in a compact. I was hoping Line6 would give them a kick in the arse to find something new and different.

Still nice to see a new compact...but i agree with Bossarea, would've been nice to see the VB-3, the RM-2 (they mostly start with the "2", don't they?), the UV-2 (univibe), CE-6, TR-3 (tap tempo tremolo), BS-2 (clean boost) or even my personal favourite, the double pedal VT-20 (vibrato-trem-vibe) :)
Had to plug that again, sorry....I would reeeeally like to see that one some day. |

| I doubt there would ever be a RM-2 Ringmod. Ringmod is a very niche effect and I doubt it would sell well at all. I mean, if Boss can't even sustain a Fuzz pedal in their line up, a ringmod is destined to fail quicker than the PW-2. I could see them updating most of their modulation line to include taptempo though. I would have jumped on a new 'dimension' compact but I supposed that's been done with the CE-20. |

| You're probably right about the ring modulator. It's a rather small target audience for a pedal like that. I keep hoping Boss will release something odd and unexpected but anything odd will probably not become big sellers. Boss has been so long in the game that they know the market pretty well by now and are probably happy to leave the niche pedals to other companies. |

Another shameless ME-50 plug:
Ring Modulator - Yep, it's got it - on the expression pedal. Strange noise maker, probably not very big market for that one on its own....
Grace and peace,
Steve
