I just came across pictures of old Tokai stompboxes - seems they use the same silver screw as BOSS... ( can anybody confirm this? )
My bet is that silver screws from cheap Tokais ends up in a "vintage" BOSS..
And maybe there are even cheaper ways of getting the silver screws??

I'm sure an expert would be able to spot if it's a fake from a long distance. According to Analogman, the reissue has a different PCB from the original so that would give it away. I've never opened up one of these so I wouldn't be able to see it though. |

| I've seen things like that before. Some ppl are just greedy in the sense that they will take a perfectly good guitar or effect and "rough" it up to make a few extra dollers. I've also seen the infamous MIJ MT-2 (which we all know don't exist) just for the sake of a higher price tag. It makes me sick in alot of ways. I've also heard of ppl taking new ibanez flanger reissues and roughing them up to look like vintage ones. One was in a shop about a mile from me. the pedal switch didn't look as beat up as the rest of the pedal and the pots turned way too smoothly for a pedal that's supposed to be over 20 years old. i had the sales clerk open it up and sure enough it was a reissue. Just my two cents. |

Arcanon, I share your views on this matter, and doing a lot of searching on Ebay makes me even think twice about the things people could do. Some things just do not add up. Just have a look overhere http://www.bossarea.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=424
I agree with Bossarea about the expert being able to spot such issues, but I guess us, being musicians, it would be more a case of listening to a pedal, playing with the controls and let your instinct thell you what is going on.
On the whole we should not have to be so concerned about these things, but reality teaches us that prices on older pedals can vary so much, so you have to be informed in some kind of way to be able to tell what are you dealing with. |
