Problem with the 74 R'ssue is that it's doesnt have a DC input nor an led. Guess thats the price to pay for a sweet sound
I don't know that it works that way Ollie. I've got a Fuzz Face reissue that doesn't have a DC power supply or LED, and Big Muff that doesn't use the Boss-style input. Honestly, there's nothing wrong with the Sqaure Fuzz Face (Grey BC108?) nor the Little Big Muff. Just depends if that vintage spec has mojo for you. I wanted a face-shaoed fuzz and the great big box of the Muff, but the sounds aren't any better. |

I did some more A/B-ing with my PH-1r and PH-3. In an effort to further alienate myself and evaporate my already tenuous credibility, the more I play the PH-3, the more I like it. The Ph-1r is great too, but it does one thing well. I like all 7 modes on the PH-3 and the one that the PH-1r does (4 stage) it doesn't do any 'better' than the PH-3. The PH-1r is a bit richer, but not any better.
More on topic, the answer to questions like the one posed - which 'X' pedal should I get - is always the same: listen to the few you are considering and pick what sounds best to you. |

I've heard that FET-based phasers are more likely to distort with high-level inputs.... is there any truth to this? I'd have thought that any distortion due to signal level would be down to other things in those circuits, as the FETs are used to modulate, not pass, audio. I know my Phase 90 used to crack up, but the phasers I currently own are all OTA based and are just fine with hot signals.
I've been listening to a few demos on

and

Dangerous thing to do! |

Well, I missed out on a PH-2 because I was too slow, and I missed out on a PH-1r because someone else had more money. It went for £102 in the end...
I reckon I'm going to treat myself to something tomorrow after work (loads of used pedals in the shops right now), and then save up to try out an EHX Stereo Polyphase. Someone I trust highly recommends them, so it's got to be worth a go.
Thanks for all the comments.
