Mid year my wife and I are planning to visit Beijing in China and Hong Kong and thought I may shop around for a small up to 20 watt all tube head. I believe most small heads are made in China. After watching videos of the Orange Tiny Terror it would be near the top of my shopping list although it doesn't have an FX loop. http://www.orangeamps.com/products.asp?Action=View&ID=78 The other is the Egnator Rebel 20 which seems cool with its blendable EL84 and 6V6 tubes. http://www.egnateramps.com/Rebel20.html There may be others like the Laney Lion heart 20 that are worth looking at as well. http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=L20H From the little bit of research I have done, it seems Hong Kong would be a better place to shop for amp heads rather than China. I understand the two big musical instrument chains in Hong Kong are Parsons and Tom lee. If anyone has been to china or Hong Kong I would like to hear of your experiences with buying musical gear.

I think DeFrag posted a link to the egnater before.... looks really good... with this and the Blackstar amp that Mully fx got and the amount of stuff they put into them, there seems to be some great little wattage amps cooming on the market with a low cost base.... i really like the look of the egnater as the front panel is a pretty simple layout..... |

| Laney lionheart is very good, the 20 watt head is excellent. I must say though, the 5 watt blackstar head takes some beating. |

It's ironic that you're considering the Orange Tiny Terror.
I use my TT with a Radial Engineering Headbone VT to switch between my TT & Blackheart Little Giant. When the TT is selected, audio output is routed to the Orange PPC112 closed-backed V30 & the Blackheart combo's open-backed Eminence 12. When the Blackheart is selected, output is ALSO routed to both cabs. This way, I get a cheap man's 2x12 each with different characteristics. It sounds punchy & airy with proper protection for both amps.
The Blackheart is nothing but American-voiced cleans where the Tiny Terror is nothing but British gain. Since neither of my Class-A amps have reverb, I run a VanAmps Sole-Mate with an authentic Accutronics tank which I'm very happy with. Its quite a versatile setup.
I first tried the Egnater Rebel-20 at GC about a month or so ago & when I posted about it, I think it may in fact be a Tiny Terror killer as it plays clean or with grit. It sports variable wattage & selectable tube mix. I wholeheartedly recommend one & think I'll grab one very soon. It pretty much rocks in versatility! |

| I had a play on a 5 watt blackheart combo in a music store and was pleasantly surprised at the features ie. 2 channel,FX loop etc. You get a lot of features for a small head and it is remakably loud for 5 watts. It would have to be miked for small gigs. They have Orange amps but didnt have a Tiny terror in stock. |

The only Blackheart with an FX loop is the BH100H head. It isn't made in a combo at this writing. But the Little Giant 5W combo that you're referring to is indeed a great amp. I bought mine for $250 instead of the $350 they go for these days. I have my eye set on the Handsome Devil 15W combo.
If I didn't have my Orange Tiny Terror head & Blackheart Little Giant, I'd buy the Egnater Rebel-20 first! On the other hand, I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Rebel next month anyway |
