Hi guys! My first time on bossarea.com :)

I'm new to pedal modding, and I still haven't found a good online store where I can find all the components needed to get a better sound from my MT-2!

I checked out the sticky thread about components sites, but they don't have in stock most of the ones needed to make this version of the Diezel mod (found at http://www.guitariste.com/forums/pedales-effets-homestudio,quelle-pedale-heavy-metal-neo,282866,30.html), for example the Semitec CRD E102, the 2SC3113-B semiconductor, or the unipolar capacitors...

Semiconductors:

LED1 (CHECK LED): 3mm red (LN-28RP) -> 3mm bright blue LED (E1L33-3B)

Q1: 2SC3378-GR -> 2SC3113-B
Q4: 2SC3378-GR -> 2SC3113-B
Q7: 2SC3378-GR -> 2SC3113-B
Q8: 2SC3378-GR -> 2SC3113-B
Q10: 2SC3378-GR -> 2SC3113-B

Resistors -> Current Regulative Diodes:

R2: 10kohm -> Semitec CRD E102 (source follower load)

(Semitec CRD E102: Current Regulative Diode, 1.0mA,
replaceable by JFETs of similar Idss values)

Electrolytic Capacitors:

C1: 10uF 16V -> MUSE (unipolar) 10uF 16V
C2: 10uF 16V -> MUSE (unipolar) 10uF 16V
C3: 1uF 50V -> Film 0.56uF 50V
C4: 1uF 50V -> Film 0.56uF 50V
C5: 10uF 16V -> MUSE (unipolar) 10uF 16V
C8: 0.22uF 35V -> Film 0.22uF 50V
C11: 1uF 50V -> Film 0.56uF 50V
C19: 100uF 6.3V -> MUSE (unipolar) 100uF 16V
C20: 0.22uF 35V -> Film 0.22uF 50V
C21: 1uF 50V -> Film 0.56uF 50V
C27: 10uF 16V -> MUSE (unipolar) 10uF 16V
C30: 10uF 16V -> MUSE (unipolar) 10uF 16V
C37: 1uF 50V -> Film 0.56uF 50V
C39: 1uF 50V -> Film 0.56uF 50V
C40: 100uF 6.3V -> MUSE (unipolar) 100uF 16V
C41: 100uF 16V -> MUSE (unipolar) 100uF 16V

Diezel mod:

C35 remove
C34 .047uF
C25 remove

C42 1uf
D3 Led
D4 1n4001

C36 .1uf

Is there anybody that can help me figure out where I can buy them? Thank you!

I moved this from FAQ to Mod&Tech.

I don't understand:do you want to mod the pedal or rebuild it ?

The best would be to rebuild it, but it seems very hard to find the components needed; maybe it's easier (and cheaper) to get only the ones for the mod itself...

If you already own the pedal it is easy to mod it as these are common parts.

Just go to your closest shop selling electronic components.

The mod is simple:
C35 remove
C34 .047uF
C25 remove

C42 1uf
D3 Led
D4 1n4001

C36 .1uf

So all you need is 3 capacitors ( 0.047uF or 47 nF - 1uF - 0.1 uF or 100 nF),one led (size and color don't really matter) and one diode (1n4001)

Remember these are used for modding a 9Volt circuit,so 16V or 25V capacitors will be just fine,otherwise they might be too big to fit inside the pedal.

Let me know how this turns out.

I've finally made this mod:

C35 remove
C34 .047uF
C25 remove

C42 1uf
D3 Led
D4 1n4001

C36 .1uf

but now the pedal isn't working properly! I think it has a serious loss of signal, when turned on the guitar seems "silenced" and the volume is very low...I'm not sure that it was caused by the mod because this problem already occurred sometimes, but hitting softly the pedal on the ground always fixed it

Is there anybody out there that can help me figure out what to do??

Hi vikingus666

If it works when you tap it on the floor, it sounds like you have an intermittant fault.

Take the back off
Inspect all the internals for possible

Broken - loose wire.
Bad solder joint
Missed solder joint (no or min. solder)
Loose-moved input output sockets.
Sockets turned & touching some other part of the circuit - circuit board - metal.
Cracked board.
Loosed - twisted Pots/switches.
A left over dag of solder or wire clipping.
Shake the metal housing & see if any cutoff wires or solder dags fall out.
Missing insulator between back of PCB & bottom cover.

If you have to use a magnifying glass & do it daylight, or under good lighting.

You may want to upload some internal pics.

Good Luck
Regards Dr. Bob

Hi vikingus666

Dr Bob is right,since it only works intermittently the first thing
I would check is loose soldering of one of the new components.

If that isn't the cause, check all of the wires inside the pedal.

to do test these,I usually connect a RC20 in the input - output to the amp at a very low volume.

Let us know how it turns out.

Ok guys, I solved the problem!

I checked out all the wirings, and I found out that the flat cable connecting the potentiometer board hadn't much plastic coating left, and some solderings were damaged; so I just needed to cover it with a bit of nail varnish, and to make some better solderings.

Now the pedal sounds quite good: the EQ knobs are more sensitive, the distorsion is way more dynamic, and those nasal mid tones typical of the MT-2 are very reduced. It still doesn't sound SOOO cool as I expected; but because of its little cost in money and time, it's still worth trying it...

Anyway, thank you all for helping me!
