| I wasn't really looking for one, but I found a 1982 MIJ OC-2 Octaver (yes, the original name) for $55 including S&H. no box or manual was included, but it was in pretty decent cosmetic condition. hopefully I'll have time to find out if it works tonight.... |

Bought myself a second hand MIT DS-1 very cheap, to compare to an early one with the “right” chip. Well, the new one had the same chip….. manufactured October 1994.
In the deal I also got manual and carton for DC-3, so now I have 2 of these…

You guys have got me looking at SD-1's now. I was looking at the schematics for the OD-1 (1st & 2nd editions) and the SD-1 and the SD-1 is surprisingly similar. I think I'll skip the OD-1 and play with the SD-1 instead.

Steve, you should look for one of the fist versions of the OD-1, really they are very VERY good, both the one with the 14 pin chip and the one with the JRC one sound great, and they do not compare to the SD-1.
SD-1 is not bad, oh no, but the OD-1 is different.
Okay so how do the 14 pin chip and the JRC compare?
Think of it like switching on a Les Paul from the Neckpickup to the Bridge Pickup. Got it? REally it is that clear, and it does not matter what amp you play through. I use very often the small Marshall Microstack amps. Well if it will sound good through one of those, it will sound fab through anything really!!
Have seen a lot of the older OD-1's pass by on Ebay recently, but also the newer ones. People pay sometimes more for the newer ones, guess they do not know what to look out for.
The case of the 14 pin chip and the JRC, yes you can not see that on an image on Ebay, you would need to ask the seller, and some people do not like opening up their pedals so.......................but really look out for them, they are very good. Instant Marshall, and a lot of different colours of Marshall as well: The midrange one, the bright, the dark ect. It helps it you use an equalizer in front of them [but they help for any pedal eh?] as you can get even more colours out of them.
The DS-1 can get some of those colours as well, but is a different animal, DS-1 is more versatile, can achieve a lot more, but I guess you will like both of those pedals on you pedalboard.............................. |

I have to agree with visserman that the old OD-1 are somehow better than the newer. Compare them with a neck and a bridge pu is pretty close to what is the difference 
Talking about the difference of of the sound of these two versions I can say that it is possible to modify a newer OD-1 with a JRC 8 pin to make it sound very close if not identical to the old one with the 14 pin chip.
I noticed that the main difference in sound doesn´t come from the op-amp! There are some different cap and risistor values that where build into the newer version and they have a much bigger influence on the sound than the op-amp.
A friend of mine borrowed me his old OD-1 (14 pin) so I could compare the sound AND the circuit. I tuned my OD-1 to the old specs without changing the op-amp and got that old OD-1 sound! |

I forgot: since this is the "NEW PEDALS AQUIRED" thread:
It´s Xmas and after getting all the presents for my family and friends I made myself some nice presents and bought three new (used) units: an early MIT DS-1 (MIJ specs), a MIJ CE-3 and a HM-2 (don´t know if it´s MIJ or MIT, it´s not in my hands yet).
So my collection grows  |

| Got my HM-2 yesterday! And now I wonder if you have any suggestions for settings since there are so many sounds you can get out of this black box. I remember I had a HM-2 in the year it was released but I was a very unexperienced musician back then and went back tothe store the next day to exchange it for my now old and faithfull SD-1! |

got a MIT CE-2 for 25euros and a MIJ DD-3 for 30euros the other week.
guy selling them obviously suffered some form of brain damage!
it's worth it to keep checking local classifieds for bargains like that. |
