So far this is my favorite Boss pedal. I'll echo back on the lower drive/dist setting. It was one of the first things I noticed about it. It's beauty lies in the contour and punch(and it's red knobs ). |

| I didn't know that this pedal had a "contour" knob. I prefer contour over having any amount of Tone knobs. I need to get one of these pedals. |

if you want to try something different try maxing the first two knobs and totally minimizing the last two knobs...it's interesting...and of course with reverb/delay this thing is just amazing...but maybe i'm just biased...
Hi Heart and Soul & guys
Thanks to the above setting you posted, I managed to find this one. It's really great for open Chord & rhythm work.
Level - max Contour 1 oclock Punch - min Dist - min
Try adding just a slightest touch of DIST. For slightly more mids, turn the Contour back to 11 o'clock. I used this on my 52RI Tele, neck p/up tone at 70-80%
It's like a Spectral Enhancer-booster (WELL! it is red ) with BITE. Guaranteed. It will cut through the hardest live band mix.
You won't really expect the sound that you get.
Although "Heart and Soul" will probably have some idea.
Regards Dr. Bob
right on again Dr. Bob...this thing cuts through really well...i had fiddled with the setting you posted and yeah it's great...any of you guys tried this thing with a bass?...it's pretty rad...i don't remember any settings cause i don't own a bass but i remember plugging my buddy's into this thing and saying to myself, "man, this thing can do no wrong..."...
but yeah it's so great that alot of you guys like it...i remember when i first got on this forum there wasn't much good being said about it...it's nice that everyone is coming around... |

Hi Heart and Soul
Thanks for the reply. Did you expect to get that sound from the setting I posted?
It's now late afternoon on Friday, we have a long weekend this weekend . I can't wait to try this setting out at real gigging volumes. Might even set it up with an OD-1 as a booster.
Many months ago, back in 2007, I won a faulty Marshall 8008 head, 1 rack unit, 80+80 watts/side. Well it took a while but I managed to rebuild the faulty mains power switch, & get a few replacement resistors, some in the 8008 had that special BROWN, not quite Black colour.
I also bought a special can of replacement Marshall smoked components, Smoke-In-a-Can, as well... Very expensive as it was blue smoke. So now, that I have hijacked my own thread, I guess I will be rebuilding it. let me know if you guys want to see any Autopsy pics, Yes Bossraea, I'll start a new thread & post them there.
Regards Dr. Bob |

I for one didnt like it at all when I first got it, I bought it just for the collection. Xtortion sounds like its only usable for heavy metal, and I dont like the sound of heavy metal guitar that much So when I got it I just tried it to see if it was working and then into the archives, BIG mistake. The tone controls are a bit odd so you have to fiddle with those to get the pedal going.

to answer your first question Dr. Bob, admitantly, yes i did . but blame it on logging many hours of tweaking with the thing...and my warning will be, at higher volumes the thing bites HARD...the higher registers are pretty fierce which is amazing for noise music but just keep that in mind...the thing is crazy...and i was just going to recommend you trying it after an OD or Dist. because if you start from the setting i gave or even just something with the countour almost maxed, it sounds really cool...you could almost use it to kind of filter the OD, or you could try it after reverb and delay and depending on how hard your pick attack is it will make all the reverberations very as far as breaking up goes...
idk, i'm just rambling now...hahaha... |

Hi Heart and Soul
Any particular OD or DIST pedal you might recommend. Any settings?
Or do you use the OD-DIST as more of a signal booster. I still can't get over that setting I posted. It's Saturday over here, & it's a long weekend (Labour Day) but only in my state.
I want to set it up, into my all tube Fender, & give it some real stick!!! Maybe the Mesa 50-50 into the Cerwin Vega 4x12 stack -- better still both.
Guess I better find my iPod & it's collection of jam tracks.
What sort of condition is your one in? And I found a schematic..

hey Bob, um, it's pretty free reign as far as settings go, you could try your setting as a starting point and maybe up the contour a little...i don't really have particular dist./od i like in front...and yeah you could say the od is sort of a boost but to me it's almost like with one of them in front it almost gives the XT a totally different character...it's weird...i've never really been too great with settings cause i'm usually using loops and tweaking knobs in real time so i never really stay anywhere long...but i mean once you get a feel for the controls you'll know what you want out of it and you'll know how to get it very quickly...i put mine after my mini-disc recorder today and was distorting old noise loops i made and i was amazed at how versatile it was...
so bottom line is, tweak the knobs, it's the only way to fly...and update us on any experiments...
and about mine, i got it without any box/documentation about 3 years ago for about $35...i'm fine with that as i don't have the funds to buy solely for collecting and it's in pretty good shape, cause i really hate ugly pedals...but yeah, best 35 bucks i ever spent... |

| Wow!!! I played with mine last night, and was able to get a convincing VOX type tone out of it. I think it is more versitle as an OD, than a distortion (unless you want that cocked wah pedal tone it ill give you. I bought it just to have it, (decent shape, $19) and did not thing much of it it, but following this thread really brought that pedal out for me. Use the two middle knobs to play off each other to unlock this pedal.. |

Hi guys
I have to tell you a quick story. I had a few friends (muso-guitarist) over, one evening.
I set up the XT-2 - with the setting I posted above, & proceeded to do a quick demo, none of the guys had heard of this pedal, & sort (nose up) balked at it.
What would old Dr. B want with a METAL Xtreme dirt pedal? Nice metallic red color though...
The 52RI Tele, & just a couple of riffs in, & the buggers all stared a bidding war against each other, & hassling the crap out of me to sell it. And play with it...
You had to be here, it was one of those WTF! moments, and to see the change in attitude. not to mention their smiling faces.. .
Regards Dr. Bob

my XT-2 finally arrived and i can say it was a very nice surprise...
i remember trying one of these like 10 years ago and thinking it was a crapp0 metal pedal but after tweaking around with it... this things sounds a lot like an overdrive hiwatt to me.
granted, i've only had a chance to try it on my gf's $30 strat w/ 15 watt 80's peavey practice amp at nighttime volumes that won't wake her sleeping 8 year old, but i'm excited to try it on my main rig.
i've been digging it at (and i realize this may change through my marshalls): contour: 10:30 punch: 11:00 dist: 9:30
a very nice surprise. definitely a keeper for me. |

Hi Guys My friend Justin just told me, that behringer have tried to copy the XT-2, and called it the:
DISTORTION-X XD300 Or is that just Xtortion sort of backwards, even the controls are marked the same.
I'm not going to bash behringer, I do have a few of their pedals, that came as part of some supposedly dead gear I purchased.
BUT: Don't go by their sound samples - they don't sound anything like a real XT-2
I won't post up the link, it's on their main site.
Regards Dr. Bob |
