I own 2 Keeley modded MT-2s, and before purchasing checked out the sound clips available for MT-2 mods, and on Monte Allums website for his MT-2 mods. I went with Keeley because the sound was more of what I was looking for, a wall of lava flowing distortion, and the switch between the 3 options gives the pedal a bit more flexibility. Hi Gain and Volume, with a great EQ section, yet note definition, and a monster sound. The thing is I liked stock MT-2s, but the Keeley mods make everything about the pedal that I liked better, and actually make the pedals distortion sound a bit more natural with some tube like qualities added to the sound. The Monte Allums mods sound good, but to me just didn't go to 11 like the Keeley seems to. I am not familiar with AnalogMan's MT-2 mods...
...but I just checked their website. Based on the sound clips, their mods definitely mellow out the Metal Zone, making it seem more like a jacked up overdrive pedal, while Keeley mods puts the Metal Zone on steroids. This doesn't surprise me though as on the AnalogMan site it is noted that their MT-2 mods reduce volume by 5db, whereas as Keeley's mod increases volume substatially, I just don't know the exact quantity. So it just depends on what you are looking for I guess... |
