I got an RC-20XL last Christmas. I treat it like my baby.
My first compact was the DSD-2. Also very loved. |

My first Boss was a boxless GE-6, which I only owned for a brief time while in high school....early 80's. I sold it for like 25 bucks after buying it for 20. Back then, five dollars was a good bit for a kid.
Maybe it was the plastic screws, but I got turned off by Boss pedals while thinking of them as "cheap" in a juvenile way, eventually bought a MXR six band and stuck to pedals made in the USA until I finally bought a CE-2 around 1999 while trying to reproduce the sound of my Roland JC amp. That only led to more Boss pedals after being "Bossless" for nearly twenty years (though I always had great respect for Roland). I finally "replaced" the GE-6 with a boxed MIJ GE-7 not too long ago. Cool cheap scores are fun and are making up for lost time. |

I went to a local store to buy a distortion compact pedal. They did have in the showcase one Metal Zone and one Xtortion among other pedal that I don't remember. It taked some minutes to make a decision. Metal Zone was/is the most popular distortion pedal here but the name Xtortion did sound funny for me. Finally the price was what gave me an answer. I bought the Xtortion, it was cheaper. I am glad to have made that decision because I have not seen any other Xtortion around since that ocassion and specially now that I know that it is not longer produced. When I take it to live performance everybody ask me what does that strange pedal do. I remember had seen a Hyper Fuzz at other local store long time ago, if I knew it was going to be out production I would somehow get money to buy it. |

I bought a MT-2 before i even had a guitar (or knew how to play)
Then i got a guitar, but still no amp, so i couldnt use it
Ever since i got my amp and guitars, my MT-2 has never left my chain
When my bud taught me the first song on guitar, he had a danelectro distortion, and i thought it was the craziest thing ever made...i could play anything and it would sound good. Then he said that he had an even better one at home call MT-2. So as soon as i got home, i went looking for it, found it on ebay for $60 and bought it right away. Ever since then all i buy is BOSS (and a crybaby) :D |

| My first Boss pedal was a DM-3. I paid $150 for it back in 1986. I still have it to this day, along with many other Boss pedals, including three DM-2s and two CE-2s. |

mine was a CE3 in 93, a gift from a friend, along with an Ibanez TS5...(very cool guy!) He hated chorus in general, so he hated it! I fell in love with, and still have it |

20+ years ago in high school, I had a friend who had maybe 6-8 pedals, all Boss. Like all teens, we were broke, so owning any pedals was unusual, but to own that many was akin to having a fleet of Porsches out on the driveway. But his folks were in the middle of a messy divorce, so they kept buying him guitar stuff out of guilt and he piled up on pedals fast. Anytime his band got together to practice in his attic, the first 10 minutes were inevitably spent waiting as he carefully pulled each one out of its box, held it up for the world to see and explained what it did. It was both fascinating and tiresome.
I knew very little about guitars but had bought myself one, which I was terrible playing. Hanging out with him and his band, I'd never play, out of embarrasment, but I'd watch and appreciate what those pedals were doing for his sound. As I recall, I saved up forever and a day, and when it came time to buy a pedal, chose a DM-3 (which I still have today) in part because he didn't have one. I showed it off to him, and what do you know--a month later, he had one, too. Since then, I've still only bought pedals on rare occasion--all these years later, I only have 7--but most of them are Boss, all because that was the brand he swore by. Luckily, they sound really good! Wish I'd had the sense to keep the boxes though. |

My first Boss pedal was a CE-3 Chorus in 1987, closely followed by HM-2 Heavy Metal and BF-2 Flanger. No others until 1995 when I got a DD-3 Digital Delay secondhand. Only the DD-3 remains, and it needs repaired.
The Chorus was little used after I got the Flanger. I miss the BF-2 and will most likely buy another. I miss the HM-2 as well, but only for nostalgic reasons - I never got a sound from it that I liked, I really wanted a distortion more like a valve amp, and compromised by using the distortion on a transistor Marshall amp. |

Hello all! This is my first post. I found this site by accident and find it both informative and entertaining.
My first Boss pedal was a CE-2 (silver screw no serial-ink stamp 9600). I can't remember now the exact year, but I bought it at the same time as millions of guitar players all over the world were buying their's; shortly after the release of "Regatta de Blanc".
"Giant steps are what you take Walkin' on the moon."
Still use it in my BCB-6. |

An OD-1 bought new in early 1980
I went off it after about 4 years due to the lack of low end and migrated to an MXR Distortion II (mains powered). Only sold it (the OD-1) a couple of years ago as I couldn't see myself using it again, wasn't aware of the possibilities of modding then sadly. |

My first was a brand-new OD-1 back in high school. This thread is really putting dates on all of us. Maybe a more direct question would have been "how old are you?"

| Mine would actually be an XT-2 I bought on eBay in '04. After that it was a TU-2. |
