i was writing a review for some gear that i bought, when i came across a review for an amps and one of one of the reviews that i read was for a H&K switchblade now...y'all most anyone that knows me from the forum know that although i don't play or use an amp like the switchblade or play the sort of music it is designed for i still think it is valid as a musicial form, and i honestly believe there is room for everyone...but i have to be honest and say this quote from one of the reviews p**sed me off..." EXTREMELY LOUD! As loud as any older plexi I have heard and Much, much louder than the 5150 I sold to get this amp. "....... nothing about tone or whatever but based on pure VOLUME..... one of the things i've been discussing with Dr Bob is ear compression and how we percieve sound levels...personally i think and everyone if welcome to disagree and call me an old fart...... ..but i think the increase in amp volume with this type of music is because they have changed the frequency of their EQ on the amps and need bigger wattage to cut through the mix..... marshall have made a mode 4 amp thats a a 350 watt monster.... where most people would be struggling to crank an AC30 or a small fender amp in some venues..?? now i see laney is following along with all the other big companies....where are these monster amps going to be played..??? i had one of the thin lizzy amps years ago after they broke up and it was like moving a piece of furniture every time..but i was 19 then and had a strong back and lots of friends who didn't have kids..... .......for any of you lizzy fans out there it was a burman amp(made in scotland) and i believe it belonged to scott gorham..... it was a great amp for stadiums(for him not for me..!!)... but not for pubs and clubs that i was doing............. |

| That's the problem with those reveiws anyone can submit one, even if they don't know what they are talking about. Some of those guys probably don't even have some of that stuff. |

agreed. there can be the most amazing product, and for whatever reason people give it all 1s saying "this product sucks," when clearly they merely have a personal beef with the company/artist endorsing it, etc.
the best one ive seen was a review for the Crybaby From Hell and some guy gave it a 1 saying it couldnt give him a Hendrix tone. thats like buying a BC Rich Warlock and hating it cuz it doesnt sound like Merle Haggard.
and about that guy who reviewed the H&K, who cares how LOUD the amp is. as long as it can go loud enough so that it cuts through who cares. ive never really seen "loud" as a good quality for an amp. |

The question should be: Is infinity loud enough? |

Hi Strato2K & Guys
The answer is Infinity plex
That's Infinity to the power of Infinity as in 2 (2^3)to the power of 3. You see a Google is 10 to the power of 100 (10^100) and the biggest number that JPL used to use, is a Google Plex a Google to the power of a Google -- [(10^100)^10^100]. The number of known objects, in the known Universe is a mere 10^33
Now beat that for loud 2K man. Did I make your brain hurt...

1 Googol = 1.0 10^100
One Googol is greater than the number of elementary particles in the known universe, which has been variously estimated from 10^79 up to 10^85. Reportedly, Google fashioned their moniker from the Googol.
A Googolplex is the number 10^10^100.
It can also be written as 10^Googol, or as a one followed by a Googol zeros. Not a Googolplex^Googolplex, sorry.

i think my brain just hemorrhaged...
on the topic of volume, like the marshall mode 4, i think its all just selling points for people who don't know any better. i had an argument the other week with a mate about how many watts you would need in an amp to hear it over a band (like practicing). he swore you would need a 100w head! i tried to explain that you don't need 100w's, 30 or 50 would be fine! anyway, it didn't resolve...
but i ask you this, how many times in a guitar shop do you see a "beginner" playing through the biggest mesa amp there? all the f*&%$# time! |
