For my birthday i got quite some money. and before that i was saving money. so now is the time to decide what to buy.
First option is a GT-8, my freinds believe that this is the best option. I think the OD/Distortion on the GT-8 lacks mojo. The main reason why i would want to get it is to be able to switch from a clean chorus to a Hi-gain stack with the push of a single switch. which normaly would take atleast 3 stomps. This feature will be extremly usefull when gigging. The thing is that i don't gig.
Second option is the beatiful new RE-20 plus some compacts (FDR-1, FBM-1, RV-5) I love the sound of the re-20 and realy like having compact pedals and all their parameters.
Third option would be to get a new amp as i'm currently using a 15 watt amp, at home. I like the Crate GT212 or maybe a VOX AD if i save a bit longer.
So i would like to hear you guys opinions!
Thanks, Nosi |

Hi nosi0 I know it's not really a reply. But something else to think about, have you considered a second hand GT-6 or maybe even a GT-3.
They a substantially cheaper that the GT-8 and it wold leave you with more money to spend on MORE gear.
I have a GT-3 & the OD's are pretty good on it, but remember, I do run a Tube amp.
maybe a POd or a floor POD or the newer pocket POD.
The new DOD 250 and DOD 350 Multis are really great as well, just don't fall for the trap of getting the oder Multi's - they are not as good.

True, the pocket pod is very attractive and so small. my friend has the Line6 spider III 75 amp. all the effects he has in that big amp all come in this maybe 8 by 10 cm box. it's amazing. and indeed a lot cheaper than a GT-8. In taiwan second hand gear is hard to come buy. except the stuff they sell at the shop. As far as i recall the shop only has some realy old black ones. and maybe a me-30 or something but not 100% sure. Anybody have an opinion on the me-20? It just came to mind when you said small and cheaper so i have money over for the re-20 and other effects. Next time i go to the shop i will try the new ME-20 by looks the ME-20 would not pass the test but it's not about the looks. It's about the sound which could be good. |

Hi nosi0
I have a friend who has the ME-30 the old black unit, he got it really cheap off EvilBay - like about $80au.
It's ok, but I don't like it that much, it's really dependent on the style of music that you play. With most Multi's you will get a mixture of good-average-and sh!tty sounding patches.
ShakeTheDevil on this forum has the newer ME-50 all metal case. He says it's pretty good, but like a lot of recent multi's there seems to be a bit of a delay like 1-2 seconds when switching between SOME patches.
You can write to him & ask in a PM from the members section. (send a member an email)
I know some of the guys here bag the behringer stuff, but I have on of their X-Vamp Muilti's - it has some really good effects and it's Cheap like $124au. It does modeling, but you really have to read the manual, to get the best out of it. I did a few gigs with it live, just to prove a point, & it was every bit as good as my other gear. They goo cheap on Evilbay. and are like about $75US new. I have it as a backup.. and it has 100 patches.
I used patch 45 -- Fender Bassman patch. I just changed the gain with the expression pedal, for lead breaks of more crunch.
if you demo one- try patch 63, it is, the absolute best auto-wah I have ever heard. And it sounds great into head phones for practicing at 2-3am in the night.
But in my book, and value for money, the PocketPod has to be the winner, 300 patches for about $220au. Some of the sounds are from the upmarket VETTA series of their amps.
Good luck picking out all your new toys (Ahh sorry Gear )
Regards Dr. Bob

| Couldn't you just plug the 3 distortion/ODs into something like the LS-2 and get all three pedals on and of with one switch? |

| True the LS-2 would solve that problem. But it's still a whole different thing to using a GT-8. I don't recall seeing a Behringer multieffects in the shop but i will check next time. |

| I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with it but the Voodoolab switcher and commander seem great. using that system would enable you to switch from one effect to a complete different one. and all the pedals become true-bypass. Unfortunately i can't seem to find those two products in Taiwan, they do have the voodoolab effects pedal range but thats not what i'm looking for. |

Hi nosi0
Just to confuse you even more
The ZOOM 606 is an interesting pedal, & it has some very decent patches. And they are also cheap on EvilBay
It does some modeling & cabinet simulation as well. You can sometime get one for just a few dollars, they suffer from dry joints on the input & sometimes the output jacks.
But don't get the Zoom 505 or the 505MkII it's a totally different & sh!itty sounding pedal. A lot of people say they dislike Zoom gear, but they have based their opinions on the crappy 505 pedal.
I also have a Zoom 2020 from many years ago, I still get it out now & then, it has some absolutely fabulous Chorus patches, they are so clean, you can even use them on vocals. I gig with the 2020 for nearly 2 years, twice a week, it's a good multi.

maybe you should get the line 6 spider 3 I have one and it sounds pretty good the only problem is they dont have tube like sound
I suggest you get some kind of booster with a 12AX7 if you were to buy that
Also I would say the RE-20 is ok but the only thing is you would have to do a comparison test with the RE-201 or maybe you like the new features but thats just my personal prefrence
Another thing get some older compacts because they have the best sound quality or do you already have a lot

i would go for(if the money went that far) a good/decent valve amp and a few pedals and maybe the LS-2 to help with switching options....i find with multi effects(and i've had a few..!!! ) is they sound great in the shop but after a while you get bored with them as most of the stuff in them you never use anyway and i think they sound a bit 'plastic'...if that makes any sense..i have a pod xt pro which i've tried very hard to incorparate into my gig rig with my boss pedals..but i've given up as it does something to my sound i just don't like....it's amazing for recording and i plan on keeping it for that but for live work it's the pedals and amps....you say you don't gig but you never know whats around the corner bro'....... |
