I asked the seller for the serial number. It's 250300 which decodes to December 1982. What's the chance that silver screw is original?

I ran across a BF-2 with a similar serial number a while ago, that also had a silver screw. Its very doubtful it was the original screw, but who knows...

I have two pedals with the same S/N 0400, a PH-1 and a DS-1. The PH-1 has the silver screw and the DS-1 has a black screw. We know that they reigned together for a while, but for how long...

The earliest black screws that have been confirmed is vissermans OD-1 with S/N 9909, if I remember correctly. The question still remains how late the silver screw was used.

There are some observations of early black screws and late silver screws but it always hard to determine if these are original or not. I have a black screw GE-6 with serial 9800 but unless I see a GE-6 with serial 9900 with a black screw I'm reluctant to accept that it's original.

Usually silver screws are fitted to pedals to boost value when selling them, and I believe it to be very rare that a screw is "lost" since its not a sloppy construction and you have to unscrew it quite a bit for it to loosen completely.

I am more reluctant to accept late silver screws, than early black screws. Your black screw S/N 9800 is the earliest so far then if it is original, which it might well be. There are some overlapping which occured, and it will be interesting to see when more info gets known over time as we collect data.

So, in other words, if you overpay for this pedal, you're going to get...

C.K. (sorry)

Yes its still a DM-2, but if the Silver Screw is fake, then the claim that the pedal is in original condition is fake as well.
