Just received a BBE Sonic Stomp I got off eBay...I won't go so far to say,"YOU MUST GET THIS PEDAL!", like many say, but I will say you should definitely check it out. It is oftentimes described as taking a blanket off your speakers, and it does seem like that a bit.

This may be hard to explain, or understand, but the reason why I like it is because it makes my notes seem to ride on top of my distortion (a Keeley modded MT-2) instead of swimming or being buried in my distortion. Some may say, why don't you just turn down your distortion? Because then I don't get the GUNK-CHUNK I am looking for...so I was sacrificing some clarity and note definition got the GUNK I was looking for, but now it seems I can have both. I haven't tested it through all of my setups and guitars yet, but I was very pleased with the quick session I had with my Fat Tele and Epi VJ Head...You could hear the brassy tele tones and the great bassy neck humbucker tones. And it also seems to make the amp a bit clearer, as many complain of Epi VJ muddiness and do mods to get rid of that...the BBE Sonic Stomp seems to help with that. The BBE Sonic Stomp is back on my GAS list, even though I just got this one, because I need one for my 'live rig', plus I like to have backups on the pedals I use, even though BOSS and BBE seem to make very durable pedals...

Just bought a Tokai MetalDriver (a plastic cased MD2 with the MD1 labeled board inside) for $NZ50. Bit worse condition than I'd hoped for; rust around the jacks, a little wiggle in a couple of pot shafts and missing its 9 volt connecter.I may get a discount from the bloke who sold it to me...
Haven't really formed an opinion on it yet, I'll get it tidied up first.
Seems a pretty good tubesceamer-like overdrive, I'll plug it in again tonight.
I'd been planning on on-selling straight away since my friend (the famous rock star!)
said he was keen on getting one.But I guess the toothbrush and soldering iron had better come out first.
Anyone else got one?

I don't have a Metaldriver but I have read that they are well thought of soundwise.

Is it the jack-socket nuts that are rusty?
I've had that with a few pedals, I put them in oxalic acid overnight (a.k.a 'wood bleach'), it dissolves away the rust. There are also guitar parts sellers on Ebay who sell the nuts seperately, I just got a bag of them to change some out.

Thanks for the tip guirat, I'll do that.
On close inspection it's a pretty well made pedal, very Boss-like construction,
pity it's not the metal cased version.
I didn't play with it last night due to sudden
but I'll give it a work-out this weekend.
(sorry 'bout that but the smily was there...!)

I just received my custom build bass overdrive pedal.
Based on the fulltone bassdrive but with an added clean blend control.
It's basically a tubescreamer with a little more gain, 2 modes, a clean blend and a separate switchable boost.
So far it sounds promising, compared to a TS-9 this pedal is suited way better to a bass, eating less lows and sounding less "fake".
And the best thing, it reacts to guitar volume and dynamics, I can clean it up using the volume control just like a good tube amp.
Not many pedals and solidstate amps do that!

I'll try it with guitar later but so far I'm happy

As I have been sick in pneumenia (???, infection in the lungs anyway..)I have not had the feeling for buying pedals, but I couldnt resist a DOD FX52 Fuzz, and for sure it is very very good, much better than FZ-2/3. Im shocked.... and the price was near nothing.
Also a Cry Baby Wah for half the selling price and its better than PW-10 for sure.
Oh a CE-2b in so-so condition for about $25, my second. Good for guitar too.

Hi Goran
I hope you get better soon.

Maybe if you play that DOD FX52 Fuzz & Crybaby really really load
and stand near a couple of 4 x 12 cabinets, it will help to rattle loose, and clear out your lung infection.

If nothing else, it will be heaps of good fun, & it might make you feel a whole lot better.

Regards Dr. Bob

The DOD FX52 Classic Fuzz has been a favorite of mine ever since they came out in the early 90's. Many people dismiss it since it is a DOD product...go ahead and do that, cause I want to pick up another one for cheap on the used market. I cannot figure out what fuzz its modelled after. I have built fuzzface, tonebender, and bigmuff clones, and nothing is similar. The tonebender and muff come close, and I feel its a hybrid design between the 2. I am very curious about the DOD FX 66 Flashback Fuzz, as I have heard it is similar, but it has an additional LOW knob....Great find Goran, one of my all time favorite pedals...

And now for something completely different...

Today I took delivery of this incredibly ugly piece of plastic:

A Daphon E10OD - I believe it's the house-brand version of the Soundtank TS they built for Ibanez. The Daphons come in colors vs. Ibanez's black, and have bumps where Ibby has dents. I couldn't resist it for $5.51 on FleaBay. Yes, I'm ashamed.

The plastic is cracked around one of the pedal hinges, but a little bit of epoxy will fix it up. The plastic case is and always will be crap, but it's just for around the house. It is not worthy of a spot on my pedalboard.

It actually sounds quite good, enough so that it has me thinking about an SD-1 to complement my Keeley DS-1.

I also picked up a pair of Soundtanks cheap a phaser and a chorus. Like the OD, they both sound good, but inspre nothing in the way of confidence mechanically. I might re-house the phaser it a metal enclosure, kinda do a bogus boutique handpainted deal on it.

I had a chance to pull the Daphon apart last night. Look what I found inside:

I thought this was the Daphon version of the Soundtank TS5, but it has a JRC4558D and asymetrical clipping diodes. I'm not going to bother checking every resistor and cap, but this looks to be an SD-1 rip-off.

The Daphon case is almost useless - it's very brittle. I got this pedal cheap in a "scratch & dent" sale because it was already broken, though new. I broke the pedal part in two more places just trying to get it off to figure out how to fix the first crack. It doesn't seem to be the same kind of plastic that the Ibanez Soundtanks use. They don't exactly inspire confidence, but they don' just crumble apart the way this one has. Maybe this box was made with a bad batch of plastic, or maybe all the Daphon-branded box are inferior, who knows?

The weird thing is, it sounds great. I'm just afraid that the next time I turn it on or off, I'll crush it into crumbs.

You could get a new metal enclosure from a place like Pedal Parts Plus, put the Daphon guts inside that and have yourself an indestructible overdrive...I'd search around the net to see if anyone has done that with Daphons to see if it is possible. I know Danelectro minis have some weird issue that make them difficult to rehouse, but I am not sure about the Daphons...
