So I have my Made in Japan DD-3 modded with the effects loop (visit Keeley website for info). I didn't do this mod, some guy did. I've been trying to understand this mod so I could do it to my Made in Taiwan DD-3. Their layouts are different which makes things difficult.

This is what I found the mod to contain (the Made in Japan one). I've attached a link below to the DD-2/3 schematic.

What basically seems to have been done is that wire "13" on the PCB that runs from the Wiper of the Effect Level (orange wire) and goes to "13" on the PCB is removed. It is a wire that is joined with a red yellow and brown. All other wires stay connected, the orange is disconnected.

The new wire that runs from 13 on the effect level to the tip of the TRS jack. The new wire from 13 on the PCB goes to the ring of the jack and bridges another lug on the jack which I guess is the secondary lug of the tip?

The Jack is a 5 leg jack which has two legs for tip and ring This is what I'm guessing, I'm not too savvy on this.

And a wire on the sleeve to ground.

The old blue and grey wires what went to the original direct out jack and left disconnected.

I hope this helps anyone looking to do this mod but also if anyone could help translate this to the Made in Taiwan DD-3.

I opened mine and the layout is significantly different. There is no direct wire running to the Effect Level like the MIJ DD-3. There is a "13" on the PCB, same color wire and near the other colored wires like on the MIJ - the yellow, black and red. The "13" on the PCB now runs near "V3" which is the "Delay time".

I tried to do the same method as done to the MIJ but with no luck. I have a True Bypass looper box that also contains an effects loop switch - so I can choose to put the effects in that chain, in the dd-3 loop or just in my chain normally, but in a true bypassed loop. That make sense?

So when I would engage the effects loop switch, to bring the effects into the DD-3 loop, the pedal would turn off. If I'd turn the loop switch off, removing the effects from the loop, the pedal would turn back on....

any help or info, or if you are totally confused by what I said, please pots your thoughts.

The way I understood this is as follows:

Instead of connecting the wiper of the effect Level (2) directly to the pcb at 13, you connect it to a 6.3 switched stereo socket.

If no jack is plugged, the wiper of the effect Level is connected to the pcb.

If a jack is plugged in, the connection to pcb is interrupted and the wiper of the effect Level goes through the loop of the effects connected to the pcb.

The "send" for the loop is the tip, the "return" is the ring, but this is arbitrary.

It should be very easy to implement.

Yeah that seems to be it.

However I don't get how to wire it with my Made in Taiwan DD-3, the Layout is different and "13" is not right if front of the Effect Level wipper like MIJ DD-3, so I'm not sure if they both serve as the same function.

I don't think the schematic on freeinfosociety corresponds to the current DD-3 implementation.

In my DD-3 version (EV59334, February 2007), The orange wire that is connected on the pcb (13) is near the square dsp chip. Most likely, it corresponds to something else than the connection to the wiper.

What you could to do is to trace the wiper connection on the small pcb that the pots are connected and find out which wire (color, number) you need to use.

Unfortunatly, mine is still under the 5-year warranty and I don't have plans to mod it in the near future.

Yes, the Schematic linked matches my Made In Japan DD-3, not the newer Taiwan ones like you have and I have - as I mentioned, I have two, one MIJ that is modded and which the linked schematic corresponds to and another which is a MIT which is the one I want to mod...
