When i was looking for a tube pre for my rack i looked at some of the Behringer stuff..some people swore by it after a change of the tubes, some said they were only there for show and did nothing... ...in the end i decided not to chance it and went with a SM audio 2 channel tube pre and it's a great sounding, well built solid unit... our singer recently bought a Samson two channel active DI and it's also a good sounding, solid piece of kit...you pay a bit more but...i wouldn't slate any piece of gear over the brand name but obviously reading some of the experiences here Behringer have QC problems with some of their products...it has been suggested before here on the forum and on other forums that a lot of the QC suffered during the Olympics in China as workers were taken away from some of these industries to finish stuff to get things ready before the everyone arrived for the games...i think Epiphone had a probblem with a release date with one of their amps over it...not saying this is Behringers only problem but it could be a factor on some of their previously well regarded rack stuff...
P.S. ..nice pic of Gilmour with the shades in your avatar RONanFEZ... |

I've watched the discussion on Behringer polarise a number of times. There are a lot of reported problems with it, all of them real I'm sure - just not for me.
My experience is that I own and use over 20 pieces of Behringer gear (from DI's to EQ, to FX to several mixing boards) and none of it has excessive noise, and apart from the coke+fader incident plus a few back-up batteries going flat because of age, none of the gear has ever failed. It runs along side stuff from Soundcraft, Rane, Presonus, EV, etc and it plays well with others.
It is built poorly in some cases - pedals the obvious one. But for me, it works

| Then you're lucky, Laurie! I've heard lots of times that there are extreme quality divergencies in Behringer products in almost every model dependent on the production period. |

No matter what, this always go's with me. I got tired of consoles that have drank beer and have smoked 2 packs a night, racks with Behringer,alesis,DOD,peavy,mackie,ect... = crappy night of mixing.
everything you need is inside. |

Ah ha! I knew there was a simple explanation. We are working in entirely different leagues... I wouldn't have Behringer anywhere near a gig like that either. Good call |

I'd take it to our gigs too, but it doesn't fit in my little Clio...

Hi.... may I ask why that is?
Because nothing is built to last forever. They said that about The Great Wall Of China. At some time, any piece of gear will need servicing. Chances are you won't find a schematic, be able to repair it, or even tweak it more to your liking. That's why, if it's SMT but it isn't dirt cheap, I usually pass. I may be paranoid, but all my expensive gear is serviceable. So those $20 pedals won't make me shed one tear when they meet their fate. Just to show that I'll spend more than $20 on Behringer, their rack mount compressors aren't too bad. Keep the good stuff in your home studio! |

 ANALOG DESK
this thing is like 800lbs, and as big as a Queen sized bed. |
