I decided to start this thread while reading some posts in the "Isn't This Dangerous?" thread.
I'd like to know what are some of the most dangerous and or stupid things you accidently, or purposely, done with you're guitar gear, amps, pedals, ect... I want to see what you're perception of dangerous is.
For example, Laurie says he'd never "use an amp without an earthed/grounded plug". I've only owned 2 amps that still have the gound pin on it. All my other amps were missing/lost the ground pin over time.
Another dumb thing I used to do was use the powered speaker jack out on a small Crate 15watt amp and plug it into my Fender 30 watt effects loop return to make the amp louder than most 100watt amps. The Fender is ungrounded by the way.
I have more stories but I want to hear yours. |

The only dangerous thing I do while playing guitar with a band is not wear ear plugs, or maybe thats not dangerous, but just stupid of me...I don't know. But then again, I am sure that running a very long extension cord to the 10foot by 10foot crack shack that we practice in, then using 2 power strips to plug in the 4 piece band probably has some sort of dangers that I don't know about since the electrical work was not done to any sort of code or standard...I don't even want to think about what could go wrong...
Other dangerous things I do that aren't guitar related...I used to drive without a seatbelt at times, but if you go over 5mph in my new car without one, a buzzer goes off now. Also, skateboarding without pads or helmet. And hanging out with the crazy ass alcoholic rednecks I am friends with always straddles the fine line between saftey and danger, or someone is passed out on that line... |

Helping the drummer carry in his gear..especially the box with all the stands in it... seriously..i done a few stupid things over the years probably the most stupid was poking around inside the musicman combo before i had the 'net and forums like this...i never realised how dangerous was and how equipment like valve amps can store lethal voltages in the filter caps........ |

| I have on occasion electrocuted myself when servicing equipment. Sometimes by forgetting that the amp was on and sometimes by touching the wires to the switch or transformer while it's still plugged into the socket. I've gotten wiser and more careful over the years so it's a long time since I last did it. |

| I remember one of the first times I jammed with some guys in a cluttered basement: a bicycle frame fell over & I grabbed it while still holding the neck of my guitar. NOT A WISE THING TO DO. |

While in university, I borrowed a friend's Marshall tube combo. I recall it being very nice, with good solid useable tones, with white tolex and it was very heavy.
After the gig, I marveled 'how this nice little combo' fit in the trunk of my car, standing up. First stop light ... a sharp "BANG" was heard in my trunk, and went on my merry way, returning the AMP to my friend.
Three months later (he's a dedicated daily player) he called me up and asked me "Did anything happen to my amp when you borrowed it"?
No doubt, I am not proud of this, but I HAD NO MONEY at the time to fix this AMP; however I am thinking I should anonymously send him $100.00. |
