ya apparantly the old MIJ DD-3s are the same pedal as the DD-2s.
as far as how the digital delays stack up to each other, i also find them to all be very similar. in most cases with Boss pedals, the older pedal usually sounds better and warmer (PH series, CE series, etc.) but i dont necessarilly find this to be true between say the DD-2 and DD-5. im currently using a DD-5 while my DD-2s and DD-3 stay on the shelf. i can get more delay time with the 5 and more features too. lets just say if there is a difference, its not really one that is hugely obvious, and especially not in a live situation.
although the DM-2 and DM-3 are a different story when compared to the DD series. |

I have the DD-6, and had the DD-3A. I had to get rid of one, and I kept the DD-6.
I did find a very small difference in sound, but as stratosphere said, theres a lot longer delay time and more features, which I found more important than the slight difference. I think its just the age that got to the DD-3 that changes it a little, since it had almost 20 years on the 6. |

sorry guys but i have to disagree.... i have two dd3's on my 'board and there is a big difference in sound between them, both are made in taiwan...the older one(it's about 10 years old) is more analog in sound...the repeats fade a lot quicker and i can get a pretty good scotty moore slapback sound out of it.....or that eric johnson sound as well if you know what i mean..in fact unless a dm2/3 ...falls into my guitar case via a car boot sale etc....this one is staying.. ..i saw a clip on you tube with joe bonamassa and said he left all the knobs at 12 o'clock on his dd3...i nearly do that with the older one but i couldn't do it with the newer one or the echo would overpower the sound...but don't get me wrong the newer one has it's uses as well especially for the floyd/u2 multi tap stuff...we also started playing a bit of bowie and it sounds great on that stuff to fatten out the guitar sound as we don't have a keyboard player ... |
