Anyone here use the boss volume pedals?

I have no experience of volume pedals (except for a cheap one for a zoom multi fx). It appears that one type of volume pedal is to be place at the beginning of an effects chain, the other sort is at the end?

The boss models i have read about are the :
FV-500L (or H)
FV-50 L (or H)

Do volume pedals effect the gain like a guitar volume pot... or do they just adjust the volume?

I have a bit of a problem adjuting my volume 'on the fly' and would much prefer a MASTER volume pedal which does not mess with my gain settings. Is this possible?

Cheers

i don't have a Boss volume pedal but it works much the same as the volume pot on your guitar. stay away from cheap ones tho as you'll get a very uneven ramp up in volume with them

I just purchased a FV-200 Keyboard Volume, so hopefully that will work out with a guitar setup. If it doesn't, I'll use it for keyboards, hahaha.

I'm using the FV-300L for that purpose. It's placed in the effects chain just before the delay and reverb. That's why I choosed the low impedance version. This way there is now cutoff in the high frequencies when lowering the volume. The ramp is very even and it works perfect for me.

Steve : gain and volume are the same thing. It just depends on WHERE you put the pedal. Gain is a "pre" volume, volume is a "post" volume, before and after a gain section (ie overdrive, disto, fuzz...).

If you put the pedal between your axe and a gain section, it will affect the gain, such as your volume knob does. If you put the pedal after, il will affect volume.

thanks for clearing that up....

what I want is a volume pedal that does not affect my guitar tone but just to modulate volume. If I understand you correctly, placing the pedal AFTER the gain section (my boss BD2 and Od3 etc) would work?

I hope I will be able to set the pedal up at 75% volume for chords and boost it to 100% for solos rather than using a SD1 as a clean boost.

Anyone use this kind of setup?

cheers for your help so far.

Yep, that could do the trick. Placed after the ODs.

But volume pedal allways suck tone a little. For your use, a clean boost would be better I think.
