I just needed to vent about this. I have been registered at the Harmony Central Forums since April of this year, but have never bothered posting due to the negativity that tends to be spread over there either regarding your equipment, influences, style, etc. However today, just for the hell of it, I decide to post just one, somewhat humorous comment. Then from out of nowhere some dweeb decides to pick on my post, attacks me personally by saying I'm stupid, and attacks my choice of equipment. Thats why I love this forum because everyone is open-minded enough to be open-minded enough to other peoples preferences, equipment, influences, etc. If you asked people at HC are they open-minded they would say yes, but then if you say I use this or that, they would just slam you, because their minds are only open to what they want them to be. Here people are open minded because their minds seem to be open to others opinions, criticisms, etc. Don't get me wrong, there are people there that are knowledgeable and helpful at times, but the rest are just wanna-be's who never will be and they only way they feel the can be is by being rude towards others in order to get some power trip that they could have had if they were smart enough to not flunk out of rent-a-cop training....

Sorry, I know that I am being negative now, but I think you get my point, I know people here love me...lol...just kidding, but I do appreciate the kindness and courtesy from all members of this site no matter how crazy or weird some of my comments may be at times. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

i totally agree, jack. the type of person that would slam someone else for their gear choice is not fully confident of their playing OR their gear. they also have an ego problem and 9 times out of 10, those same egotistical players are not nearly as good as they think they are. and why rip on fellow guitarists. i enjoy talking to other players regardless of their gear or how long they have been playing

one thing that people should know about guitar is that there is no right way to play. there are so many different styles, sounds and methods out there. one player isnt more "correct" than another.if one person says that a certain brand gives horrible tone, that might be exactly what someone has been looking for. (except for the XT-2)

and by the way, every bossarea member that i have ever talked to has been friendly and respectful, and i hope it stays that way.

this is the second time this subject has come up in the last week or so,dingus had a post about guitargeek and a problem he had there..i stopped reading harmony central a while ago because of all the negativity about gear and what jack was saying.... the personal attacks on people over gear choices....ase joe satriani said"its not about jumping higher or running faster its about the quality of the expression".... thats where its at folks... it doesn't matter if its on dave gilmours 001 strat or john mayall's squier bullet..jj cale plays a casio guitar and is a excellent musician and songwriter..jj also uses small amps like a fender blues jr etc 'cause his back can't carry the vintage bassman anymore...!! the gear is only the means to the end....another strange thing a lot of the boss pedals these people slag off are on the pedalboards of the famous.. i saw peter green a couple of years ago and he had the tr2 and the rv3 in front of him..the amount of people who use the ds1(including me..!!) is astonishing and as for the ce2......

Its funny you mentioned Dingus' post cause I had a comment to make about HC there as well, and this was before my incident today. So yeah, its just sad that people forget that gear is irrelevant in the hands of a talented musician. Also, it reminds me of a quote from the surfing movie Step Into Liquid (BTW, I am also into longboard skateboarding) where they say,"the best surfer is the one having the most fun." I think the same can be applied to music as well...

Well, while we are on the topic, I think this forums and site are fantastic!

I agree with everyone else's comments too. I think it's a bit immature and sad that other so called 'musos' would bag others for their gear choices. Some people make do with limited budgets or space constraints and instead spend their time practicing and playing rather than buying gear for show.

If you are relying on your gear to make you sound good then too bad. I really admire people who can make any guitar sound great because of their skill. That's something the kidkys should aspire to, not the next guitar or amp.

Just my 2 cents...

There is not a lot of love for Boss pedals over at Harmony Central. Some people think boutique gear makes up for a lack of skill. It is not all hate, but be prepared for at least some insults if you post anything about a large Boss collection over there.

I didn't even say anything about Boss, but thanks for the warning if I ever decide I want to have a "Grown Folks" conversation in the childrens play area known as Harmony Central.

Sad but true, many a good forum has died due to the negativity and bickering of its members. I think a positive thing to do would be to all the negative members who dislike my gear nah seriously though those sorts always ruin a good thing, if you have nothing positive or helpful even if it is against the grain then say nothing at all, dont slag of for the sake of a slagging, no one is interested........ HC has been ruined by fools, fortunatly the Marshall forum and this one are still the best
