I have just got my dr 880. At the beginning of the song (Goodbye Horses) there is a small drum solo, that has 4 kick beats and then 2 triplets, like 1 2 3 4, tri p let, tri p let. How do you enter that kind of beat into the dr 880? I'm just looking to make some of my own patterns. Thanks patt |

Hi patt Welcome to the forum from Australia.
I'm not familiar with the DR-880. I believe we do have a few member here, that own them, or similar drum computers.
Regards Dr. Bob |

I suppose you could do it on-the-fly with EZ compose, but personally I have not had much luck programming drums in that way.
I would go into "step recording" and look for a note designation at the top of the screen. Quarter note, eighth note, triplets, etc. Insert the drums you want then listen back. If it doesn't sound right, change the note at the top of the screen and erase the drums you just programmed in. Then place the drums in the frame again and listen back. Repeat the process until you are satisfied.
It's tedious and a lot of work, but it gets easier as you become more familiar with the process. |

Hey patt, hope your enjoying your 880, i love mine. ok... don't know if this will work for you but what i have done is slow the tempo. say the song is in 120bpm, slow it to 60 bpm and enter the kick beats that way, then bump it up to 120bpm. it has worked well for me several times, but sometimes it don't but its worth a try. good luck and let us know if it works out. |

| I love this rhythm programmer, tunable drums great sounding basses. However take care on construction of patterns, keep them short and sweet or you will run out of memory. First I would tap the tempo into the DR880 the I would probably start in EZ compose. You can start easy compose from anywhere in the user or preset patterns, Go to the kick snare and look for a 4 beat pattern which closely resembles the one you are about to compose. At this stage don't worry to much about snare or other beats but try to keep it simple. I think there are about 90 alternatives. Close and save the desired phrase. Go to edit pattern open Step Record here you can edit all drums and bass notes with curser control, you will see the highlight move as you move the curser, delete those un-needed beats, curser to the Qtz section and enter the triplet note by turning the value wheel.Close the Step Write editor an save the pattern and start the Record (real time) practice a few times then hit the start await the count in then put those triplets where you want them. If you are not happy with the result just switch the pattern up or down. DR880 will ask if you want to save, just hit Enter then switch back to your pattern and have another go at getting them triplets in. When you are happy with your work don't forget to save it. I save my patterns every time I make a change I'm happy with. |

| Just lookin agian at your question 4 beats then a triplet, triplet means you need at least two bars unless your piece is in 6/4 time. |
