Hi guys' I've been looking for an SD-1' older Jap/Taiwan preferably?
But was wondering' are the 'newer' ones worth a go? I'm talking stock/unmodded, just wondered if there really is that much of a difference??

Also' whilst on the subject' what is the prefered pedal by most' out of the sd-1 and sd-2 ???

Any views will be much appreciated!

I have both a sd-1/T and a sd-1/J. The MIJ sounds better but the MIT is good too. I really like the sd-1 for its "dirt" witch gives you instant attitude (asymmetrical). Tubescreamers seems more "polite" to me even though there are use for them too. If you dont like the loss of bass with the sd-1 try an eq in the loop or after it to compensate. I have never tried the sd-2.

Can you send any sound samples about MIJ and MIT with the same settings?

i've noticed a difference with varying eras of SD-1's, especially the ACA versions vs. the PSA versions.

as a whole they don't sound too different... older ones sound a bit more "full" but the actual drive flavor is pretty much the same. as a whole they are very versatile. i have issues with the bleed problem with sd-1's, but that's another subject.

SD-2's are pretty sought after but often for different reasons. imo, they are the best "heavy" overdrive boss has when it's set to lead mode (with the OD-2 on turbo mode being really the only rival as those are the two that can approach JCM900 levels of gain).
the crunch mode leaves much to be desired as i feel it's a bit thin but others here will disagree with that statement. you need a lot of volume to get low end ballage when on crunch mode.
