I was looking up gear on clist and seen a post for some boss pedals.
He was selling a mt2 ge7 and a psm5. Befor locking into buying them $100 usd for all I asked him for the numbers off the pedals for some info and also if the were MIT or mij. For some reason he would not give me this info, accialy got agrivated it seemed from me asking.
Anyway it sounds like he is selling stollen goods, or trying to scam people. What do you guys think? |

In my experience, when people get cranky about serial numbers they are worried you are trying to scam them - get the serial number then report it to police as stolen, then tell the police you think you have found it on C-list. I'm not sure there is any history in the real world to support this amount of paranoia? Of course, they could actually be stolen and the advertiser is worried you are the real owner
Anyway, usually I just ask them to use the serial number decoder here and tell me the answer. That way i know the date of the pedal, but they haven't had to tell me the serial number.
PS: $100 for the lot is a good deal! |

Be wary of people unwilling to share basic information with you.. I see enough Boss pedals standing up in such a way as to conceal black or silver screw.. lots of Craigslist stuff won't show the backplate either.
the PSM-5 should be MIJ for sure. |

I think I live in the same city as you.
Actually I know I do because I've seen that guy post those pedals now for a few weeks. I get a weird vibe from the pictures.
Hold out a little longer or offer him less I bet he'd go lower |

but sometimes it works out the other way - and you get a clean long-dash DS-1 for super-cheap cos the guy thinks it's no different from what they're making now. |

If it feels like something just ain't right, it's because something just ain't right!
If they're stolen, someone is missing them.
I would hate to have my pedals stolen, only to be sold for peanuts by some petty little parasite.
Do the right thing.

I'm sort of with Laurie on this....the sort of questions we ask as bossfreaks might be taken up wrong by non boss type folks...it's possible he thought you we insinuating that the were stolen by asking for serial numbers and didn't realise you were trying to date and source the country of manufacture...... ...i can understand your frustration so maybe if you sent him a PM explaining the situation and that your a collector it might solve any confusion....
on a different note when i got my CE-2(ibought it direct, face to face) i nearly dropped it when i flipped it and saw the black label and the MIJ on it.....i got it,a HM-2 and a behringer blues overdrive for 115 when there was a jap CE-2 on it's own going for nearly 200 at the time..... .......... |

a seller unwilling to provide info, usually has something to hide. Laurie's idea of directing the seller to the serial number decoder is a good idea, but might *ahem* tip a seller off that he's got a $200 CE- and not a $50 CE-2 (as they stumble on the forum part of the website) like I used to see advertised here in the Bargain Finder
Like they say on Kijiji,,, buy local, face to face.

Smack dab in the middle between Holland and GR, Hudsonville. And you?
I've seen those pedals at least three other times. I'm pretty sure there was a fourth pedal, maybe a CE-5 or a CH-1 the first time he listed them. |
