Use reverb a lot. Both the RV2 and RV3 are great. RV5 is great as well but maybe also a bit of overkill.
GE6 gets used here daily. Very special indeed, recently I noticed on the homepage that the GE6 is based on the MXR EQ. Even before I read that I could hear this. The GE7 is more subtle than the GE6, so you can boost more agressively before you get into unwanted dist. teritory.
I keep changing my set-ups and experiment forever with all kind of sounds. It is a joy to discover that even the most basic set-ups [eq, dist. and reverb] can give one so many flavours.
From changing your set-up you learn a lot about your pedals and they also surprise you at times.
Try seeing it like this: Play and practise on an unamplified electric guitar and treat yourself at the end of the day with an amp and some pedals and you will always look forward to playing.
I have the most fabulous amps around here, but over the last four to five years I have been playing a lot of small and tiny amps with the goal to make them sound great by using pedals. Coming back to my big stageamps I cannot believe my ears. It really is a joy and a treat.
Similar for all the modulation and delaypedals. Do not use them that often as they are so specific, but for playing around they are very good indeed.
When I say specific I mean they take a bit of time to fit into the sound of a song, and I am often around impatient people, so need to get my sound happening within seconds otherwise time get lost.
yea man, about the practice, that's a good way to look at it. to not take the better things of sound for grant. also as modulation goes, the only pedals of that sort i have are the DD-3, DD-7 and FRV-1 as of now but plan to get a TR-2 soon. myself being a simple kind of guy, i haven't been thinking of using much flangers, phasers or things like that. and lastly, i agree about the time thing, boss should make all modulation pedals with an expression pedal output for tap tempo and such |

very true, BD-2 is probably the most veratile OD on the planet for sure! |

| Easy; it would be my old Thomas Organ Cry Baby with the "stack of dimes" inductor. As for the BOSS stuff, either the DM-2 or the CE-2. I would take the DM-2 and put it in the "going to the island" bag, then when you weren't looking I'd stick the CE-2 down my pants and sneak it past you. |

I'm a chorus man. And I'd have to say CE-2 tickles my shimmer bone.
For my island pedal I'd go with a RC-2 no question. |

awesome awesome, i've never played a CS-2. i imagine it would sound great. however, the RC-2 was my first pedal, love the thing. if i had an adaptor for it i'd use it every day but.. it's just been sitting lately. i love it no less than the first day i got the thing. truely an innovation. |

Delay.
A basic guitar, basic amp, and a delay box, is all I really need.
Maybe some chorus as well. |

BF-2 is still on my pedalboard. I really like the way it sounds and its a versatility pedal too. You can even emulate a chorus. And mine is a rare version cuz of it label. Theres even a topic about it. |
