Gargh Bloc Party. I was into them over a year before they got big, they're ok, but I liked them better before.

Currently I've cracked open some 80's/90's alternative stuff again:

Polvo - Cor Crane Secret
Polvo - Today's Active lifestyles
Ride - Going Blank Again
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over The Sea
Pavement - Slanted And Enchanted
The Melvins - Houdini (Going to see them on the 13th)
Helmet - Betty
Elastica - Elastica
Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me
The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy
Roadside Monument - I Am The Day Of Current Taste
quote:
Smashing Pumpkins - Gish (I've been trying to really get myself into the Pumpkins for a while now, I like the singles well enough, but I just cant seem to get too far past that. It seems like all the other songs on a pumpkins album are just Corgan screwing around with longer instrumental parts, or being way too sensitive and soft-spoken)

Gish is pretty much my second favourite Pumpkins album (After Siamese Dream (bien sur)). It's a bit more classic rockey, but there are some great tracks on there, it's just a little less refined than Siamese Dream.

I didn't say I've only just got into them.

Been a big fan since 2004, and I never thought they did get big to be honest.

I posted them as I realise they aren't as big in the US, and a lot of huys on here will appreciate how brillaint Kele and Russell are.

I didnt say you had They're not that brilliant, just part of the current cookie-cutter pop-rock scene.

Pop Rock?
ArtRock or Indie at it's finest.
Well, maybe.

Indie died with Pavement in 1999. Not Art Rock by any stretch of the imagination. Pop-Rock, with slight Post-Punk influences.

Well, I also go with Indie in the literal sense (I'm also a sucker for the NME, so that doesn't help), but We'll settle on PostPunk then.

I'm also into all this synth pop stuff, but it's more synth than guiatr in a lot of cases, so i won't bore you all with it.

Don't let NME make you think all these new bands sprouting up are Indie, they're far from it, both in sound and attitude. Would you be referring to New-Rave? I hate that shit, but each to his own. Synth's are good, but in a Eurythmics\Kraftwerk\Sparks\Aphex Twin\65daysofstatic way.

'Kick out the Jams Motherfucker'. I love MC5, I got their 3cd set a bit ago which is all live, that's really cool.

No I'm actually listening to loads of 80s/inspired stuff. In fact, just got hold of two 65Days albums, so will be checking them out this evening.

And the New-Rave stuff. It's allright. Yeah I do like it. But that's proabably cos I like stuff that strictly speaking is rubbish. Some guys with some broken keyboards and guitars, but they've having fun, I'm having fun, so no trouble.

65days are great, the Hole EP especially is great, but the Fall of Math and One Time for all Time are great too. Strictly speaking all these crappy new bands hailing themselves as indie (but they fail, and are post-punk revivalists) are all 80's inspired, in the FACT that they all want to be Wire and Gang of Four, except they do it poorly, and fail again.

Yeah, that is true. But I am young and niave. And it's better than the stuff in the mainstream. So I'm happy.

Everything is a reviaval of something.

Though there is yet one musical subgenre that has yet to be touched and I'm going to make it big on it...

Yeah, live is where they really stand out. I was going to get that set, but I think I already have all 3 concerts on separate CDs. Still maye get it though just because....also been thinking about getting the Purity Accuracy box set, and if you ever get a chance to see MC5: A True Testimonial, do so. I managed to get a bootleg DVD copy and its awesome...

It wouldn't be the same without Rob Tyner, although they're still going strong as DKT/MC5, if I get the chance, I definitely will. I'd really recommend the set, it's got some really good versions of tracks (mainly due to the live aspect).
