yep, went for my quarterly pawnshop troll, and yesterday, I made it home empty handed. but TODAY - another story.
nice DD-2 $75CAD, is the only one I took home but ... some Jazz guitar player dropped off 12 pedals at Cash Canada Pawn, 1/2 were gone but this was left: CS-2 #261800 and PH-1 SS #9600, and they were only $59, but I had to leave them behind. PH-1 had a non-boss bottom and the i/o jacks were moved to teh end of the case, near the power plus; ditto with the CE-2; also both bottoms were trashed with much glue and slopily applied velcro (ugh). They were both in pretty rought shape so I passed. there was also an Ibanez metal charger, and a boss CE-3 with the centre knob missing. thats it for now kids. |

DD-2 eh... Don't you already have like 3 of those?
What's the serial number of your last one? Blue label I assume, cream or silver lettering on the control plate? |

I was just reading about the Ibanez Metal Charger yesterday, four JRC4558 chips if that's a good thing? It's supposed to be a good pedal, if a little low in volume according to another site.
The only guitar gear I see in pawn shops around here are brand new Starfires, maybe the occasional secondhand Squier.
Charity shops here have stopped accepting electronics due to safety reasons (i.e. they don't want to get sued if anything starts a fire).
I sold my BF-2 to a pawn shop about 8 years ago for 20, then saw it on display a week later for 60. Their formula is apparently to offer one third of what they sell the item for, which itself is half of the 'retail value' in their reference book. So basically you get one sixth of the 'as new' value. I sold a few items back then, and regardless of the value they used to say "We've got a few of 'em in at the moment, can't shift 'em. Tenner?" Maybe I was lucky to get 20, I wish I could have bought back the flanger, it was mint, but had gone by the time I was solvent again. |

| Fleas Markets (Tianguis in Mexico's spanish) are very good place to look for rare gears but finding something in such a huge jungle it's a real challenge. |

ahhh paper label missing, but all else intact. no hiss or hums, and case only has a few markings, no pealing of the blue lable underneath. does have the older, slighly more goldy-pearl finish too. |

it's been a long time since I've seen a decent selection of used pedals when hitting the pawnshops; my most recent pawnshop purchases were a couple of cymbals. I think the last used pedal I bought locally was my MIJ SS BF-2, at a music store that seems to specialize in used gear. (that said, more recently I looked with longing eyes at a boxed DM-3 offered for $175 at a different store.)
to some extent, eVilbay has replaced my pawnshop trollin', at least as far as pedals go, but where you live makes a big difference too. I used to live in a city with a lot of pawn shops (one could easily hit 10 in a single afternoon), but for whatever reason the city I live in now has considerably fewer pawn shops, despite twice as many people in the metro area. oh, for the days of old, when I'd laugh at classical acoustic guitars with steel strings an inch off the fretboard and a price tag of $100 , and for the bargains(?) lost ($350 for a '70s Twin Reverb but without a shred of Tolex on it), or the time I traded a crossbow plus $100 for a bass at a pawn shop (many years later, I sold that bass on consignment at a different pawn shop).... (exaggerated sigh!)
but seriously, nice find, starr36! |
