Hi, I'm thinking about bidding on one in a local auction. How versatile are they? Can you get usable overdrive/distortion as well, how good's the bypass, anyone here use one? I play (if that's the right word!) short scale fenders into solid state amps. Cheers!

| I personnaly find it awful (something like "too artificial"), but that's just my opinion. |

| A lot of people like them as a nasty in-you-face fuzz. It won't do the smooth fuzz you hear on popular records of the 60s (Hendrix etc) - that's what the FZ-3 is supposed to do. It more 60s garage. I've heard a lot of people describe it as having a industrial music tone - harsh and brash. It actually has a gain boost mode so can be used as a overdrive of sorts with a tube amp. Wouldn't work too well with a solid state though. Should be easy to offload if you don't like it. |

I've tried both now (FZ-2 and FZ-3) and IMHO the FZ-3 is WAY nicer. Like RRV-10 said, much smoother, warmer.
I can get my FZ-3 to sound pretty harsh too if I want. |

Yep, I found the FZ-3 as good as the FZ-2 is bad.

My opinion differ 180 degrees. I like FZ-2 more, you can get really weird sounds out of it for sure, and sometimes this is a good thing. Its like a fuzz on stereoids. FZ-3 is a typical fuzz but not nearly as good as the better ones.

Thanks guys, I'll probably pass on it as there's a HF-2 I'm keeping an eye on as well... (love flangers!) and I do have a Jordan Bosstone copy made by a local electronics guy for fuzzy noise Still, nastiness has it's place and if it stays cheap... Cheers! |

| GET IT! The FZ-2 kicks ass, I too use a short scale Fender (Jaguar) into a solid stae amp (Fender Eighty-Five) and it sounds great, good for Nine Inch Nails and Deftones esque sounds on Fuzz II, Fuzz I is good for Pumpkins and grungey sounds, aswell as the standard garage rock fayre. |

on HC reviews. FZ-3 has a better overall rating. (at least it did last year) why? i dont know.
the FZ-2 is an awesome pedal. it has a lot of different fuzz textures avialable and even has a built in gain boost. the only problem i have with it is i cant find to find a place for it. its always in my chain but i can never find songs to use it with |

Well, I bought it ($73NZ, about $50US), now comes the waiting... Our main amp is a fender deluxe 85 too! Thanks for your opinion tomwest, we're using a vista series super-sonic and a jagmaster (both black of course!). I'll let you all know how I like it, if it's not my style I can easily get my $ back. Cheers! |

Hi all, Just got it, Mint, box and manual, March '93. Initial impression Very Good and individual sounding. Not a smooth '60's fuzz, much more aggressive. Extremely quiet too and a beautiful metallic silver. I reckon it's a keeper! Cheers! |
