I just bought one of those red dunlop fuzzface reissues with the Dallas-Arbiter in the smiley face. I'm wondering what to expect. I had an old original one back around 1990 or so, and it was great. The old ones are now way too expensive. If I don't like the sound, I'm wondering if I should buy a matched set of germanium transistors and install them, or see if Dave Fox or Analogman will do mods. I like the idea of a pedal where I can have the volume dimed on my guitar for heavy leads and then dial back the guitar volume for crunch rhythms. Any experiences with these?

I got it and here is my review. The positives - it cleans really well with the volume knob .. way better than expected. It creates decent rock and roll crunch with chords. Again, better than expected. Single note runs aren't fabulous. There is too much muffled bass and not enough sustain. There isn't much range with the fuzz knob. It sounds best with single coils, but not as good with humbuckers.
