It looks like it has 3 frequency sweeps.. one each for Low, Middle, & High. Parametric EQ uses bandpass filtering where the frequency is adjustable as opposed to simple shelving filters such as a normal bass or treble control. With a parametric EQ, one can really sculpt the sound in a way that a graphic EQ just can't; graphic EQs have a fixed frequency that they cut or boost. Unfortunately, with most parametrics, you don't have the option to adjust the width, or upper & lower thresholds of the band. In all though, I prefer a parametric over any other type of filtering. I just wish I actually owned the PQ-4; its on my list but I'm lazy to run through the logistics to actually make the aquisition.

Hey Thanks for the great reply! :) I have a ge-7 that i just got yesterday from espray and it's real noisy and it has the patented japanese hiss ha ha! I'm still tinkering to get a good tone with it. I'm using a keeley modded sd-1 and it rules but for what i'm trying to do I think the way to go for me is either getting the sniper mod done to the ge-7 or trying to find a pq-4. Does anyone have the sniper eq mod going on in there ge-7? |

| I think the pq-3b is more versatile 'cause you can set the low frequency also. Got one yesterday so I try it and let you guys know. |

| Does anyone know if you can get an SP-1 sound with the PQ-4? SP-1 gives you that wah in a stationary position sound. |

Never tried it but it depends on how the bandwidth(Q) differs from the pq-4 and sp-1 , I think. |

It should be possible to get PQ-4 sound as SP-1, but the easiest way to do that is buying a Behringer clone or using a wah (without moving the pedal...). PQ-4 is extremely useful to tailor a specific sound, you can get a thin tele sounding like a Les Paul. I had it a long time before understanding PQ-4, got a few hints from a friend and figured it out. The key word is small movements of the knobs, a little makes a big difference. A little theoretical knowledge of EQs helps a lot. |

The PQ-4 is something else. Hold on to it.
Here's a suggestion on the mystery of the PQ-4. Assume that there are limits or parameters to what the noises a conventional amp and guitar can make. An equalizer broadens these limits. The PQ-4 does it to such a degree that you can get those crazy lows that Dimebag Darrell used to get.
I think i read somewhere where 'the max' or the limit of the GE-7 was say 18. The Pq-4 pushed that max to say 22.

| I have heard great things about this pedal. There is a video on you tube with this guy from japan playing pantera's shedding skin and it sounds real damn close. He is using a pq-4 and caught it on video just to test it out. I would post a link but i'm not sure of the posting regulations on this forum. |

| as part of the settings for the PQ-4 it says you can get an acoustic guitar tone. is this achievable and if so how realistic does it sound? |

| the Boss PQ-4 is golden, IMHO. even if yr guitar has one bridge pickup and no tone control, you can pre-set your favorite tone setting (e.g., neck pickup, E.C. 'woman' tone) for leads, etc., at the stomp of a switch. the PQ-4 has a slightly steeper learning curve than the GE-7, but to me it's well worth it. |
