| One of my favorite effects, trapped in '70's rock as I am...I love the sound of the original EH Small Stone. How do y'all feel about the various Boss models?... |

My Smallstone broke, so I scoured this forum for advice: PH-1r was the mostly frequently reccommended, and PH-3 fairly heavily derided. I couldn't find a PH-1r, so plumped for a PH-2 since it's an analog circuit. I found that the sound was very smooth but a bit bland, more like a slow sweep of a wah than the gurgling organic sound that you get from a Smallstone. I also disliked the fact that mode 2 was mainly useless, and that mode 1 was quite subtle unless the depth and resonance controls are way up, which in turn causes a very loud swooshing artifact making it similarly useless.
I'm sure that plenty of people can get a useable sound out of them, but I've ended up buying a new Smallstone for my phaser needs.

Got both the ph-1r and ph-2 and love them both the ph-1r is a drier phaser, and is super before overdrives and distortions. the ph-2 is better sounding after, and wetter the ph-1r is a 90degree, and the ph-2 is a 270degree might pick up a ph-3 to run two 4 stage at once, or for the added gadgets |

PH-1r all the way, especially for 70s rock phaser effects. Don't let that stop you from buying my PH-3 though! |

| phase is my favorite modulation sound. i prefer the PH-1r for almost everything because it has an absolutely beautiful sound, but if im feeling a little crazy i might kick on the PH-2. i have no use for the PH-3. |

I have a MIJ PH-2 super phaser and I think it's alright it can't really get that classic 4-stage sound but, I just got a PH-1r off ebay $67 w/shipping. So when I get it This is what I'm wondering, If I turn off the RES all the way counter-clockwise it's a PH-1 right? |

The ph2 is a 12 stage phaser. Don't have the ph1, but I think you get the same with the Res rolled back |

i think the PH-2 is a 10 step in "mode 1" and a 12 step in "Mode 2" if i rememeber correctly. i find "mode 1" much more musically usefel anyway |

| I read the same thing about the 10 stage thing, but nothing official by Boss. The mode knob sounds like it controls the res. Mode I is low to high, while II gives you sharp resonance |
