Hi kelmaur
Nice Ibanez RG770. How does it sound & Play? Did you also get the genuine Ibanez case?
I have mentioned before, we bought our son an RG1550 (Black) a few yeas back. He has kept it in pristine condition. It came with the original fitted case

it is an Ibanez...yes it does sound and play great..this is my 4th RG i have..my others are a 1992 RG570 i bought brand new in 92, and a 1987 RG550 and a 1990 RG550..all Wizard necks...awesome necks
no i didnt get a case with it...it was a pawn shop find...i have original Ibanez cases though
this RG770 has a Seymour Duncan in the bridge, although i dont know what model it is...i usually use Dimarzios.....sounds awesome though..for the exception of 2 or 3 nicks on the body..it looks rarely used..the neck looks flawless everywhere
now all i need is a RG750 |

| Hmm. Can you guys enlighten me or point me to website where I can get more info on "good ibanez guitars" from the late 80's early 90's... I see a lot at pawnshops ... and some look to be pretty high quality (it's easy to tell the student-grade guitars from the pro models) so If you could provide me a very brief list of the model numbers, pickup configurations, and key identifiers, that would be awesome. thx. |

i can rell you some info..what do you need to know or wha tare you looking for....IMO all of the RG series ffrom th elate 80's and early 90's are very good guitars (build wise, playability wise, and modding wise) the models with the original Wizard necks an dthe square neck joint
now the older RG550's have the electronics attached to the pickguard and the older RG570's the electronics are mounted in the routed parts of the body....same differenc goes for the 750's and the 770's
as well as ht e550's have pickguards and the 570's dont
same for the 750's and the 770's
750's and 770's had sharktooth inlayed necks
550's had solid maple necks most a few had maple necks and rosewood fingerboards (but rare)and 570's had maple necks and rosewood fretboards
750's and 770s had sharktooth inlayed maple necks and rosewood fingerboards.....some had solid maple necks with the sharktooth inlays the same color as the body and headstock...htese are hard to find..(any older RG550, 570, 750, 770 are hard to find...)
jemsite.com has a lot of cool people with a lot more info than i can give you, also you can d'load copies o fht ediffernet years catalogs with listings of differnet colors they offered for certain years as well as pic of the different models woith the differnet pickup configurations, necks, etc
these guitars are sought after and if you find one you grab it
hope this helps a little..the RG's are very good guitars whether old or new..i just prefer the old ones
when i get a pic of my "family" ill post it |

Hi kelmaur
Great reply. I wasn't aware that the RG's had become so sought after. I do see one now & again, I will pay more attention next time.
In your opinion how & where are the 1550's considered? Not that my son is thinking of moving his on. It's more of a question, so that I can inform him.
Regards Dr. Bob

Nice!! I used to have an RG series years ago, and I can't even remember which one! It was a great guitar and it eventually went to the son of a friend as his first "good guitar".
It went to a good home, but I kinda wish I still had it...

one reason they are sought after is the necks (Wizards..the original ones) the new models (the 1550 you talk about) have a different neck than the original Wizard..i think they are Ibaneze's Prestige neck
they are little thicker
if you have never played on an original neck..this is the best way i can describe it..it is like holding a ruler..like the ones you had and used in school..very easy to move around
i have never played a 1550, so i really cant tell you anything about them other than IT IS AN IBANEZ |

Blue one - 1990 Ibanez RG550 (humbucker/neck;single coil/middle;humbucker/bridge and pickguard w/ maple neck electronics mounted to pickguard
Purple one - 1992 RG570 (same as 550 except for) no pickguard and electronics mounted in the routing..rosewood fingerboard/maple neck
White one - 1987 RG550
Grape Ice - 1991 RG770 pic in first post here no pick guard..hum/single coil/hum...electronics mounted in routing shark tooth inlays
RG750 - dont have one yet..but same spec as the 770 except for it has a pick guard..(same differences between the 750's and 770's as well as the 550's and 570's)
some of the 550's and 570's had sharktooth inlays as well and they were DX's stands for Deluxe i think..and they had a pickguard the same color as the body (mirror)
hope this helps out some
any more questions shoot them to me and ill help out all i can

a picture is worth a thousand words there is a Korean made RD350DX here in town for $349.00 sharktooth felt OK, but I can tell it was much newer than the 80's and 90's stuff. has a nice slim neck |
