Over the last six months, I found my personal "Holy Grails" - A Pearl OC-07 octaver (like Boss OC-2, but with octave up as well), a really good envelope filter (Pigtronix) an overdrive that sounds like a tube amp (homemade) and an analog chorus like the CE-2, but without the mid-boost (Ibanez CS-505). For a while, I thought I had everything I "needed", but over the holidays, I have convinced myself that a Slow Gear is the missing ingredient from my perfect board, so I'm currently building a clone...

Snap. That's one of my personal holy grails too! I was lucky enough to find one last year (I actually have an OC-2 "Octaver" aswell... I should do an A/B test and see which one I think is better).
That's a great diverse collection of pedals you've got there too. I've mentioned it before, but I still love your Russian Smallstone. The MKII's are very hard to find. Mine's an MKIII - not sure how different they sound but I did try a Nano Smallstone and it sucked compared to my Russian one... |

So after about a year of working out the right things here's mine. The case is a very sturdy flight case with a lift off lid that I have had for about 20 years and which I got for nothing in the first place. I always thought it was too big but lo and behold I have filled it up! I would have really liked to find a compact pedal that did the business for me dirt wise but this was not to be hence the big Blackstar beasty which I have to say is really nice and great for recording.

I also have a Cry Baby but that isn't used much so it can be connected off board. The big silver box top right is just for connectivity but I may add a bypass-all switch to it for emergencies and also for ease of switching out everything when recording. At some point I may also add some bypass switches at the front to take out some of the lesser used pedals and reduce the overall length of the chain.
Path is
CS-3 (modded DBX) TU-3 PH-1x (tatty PH-1 modded for less noise and added resonance) Blackstar CE-5 (analogue) TR-2 DD-3 (with a little top taken off the delayed signal)

It's fantastic! It's from around 1981, part of the same series as the infamous TS-808 Tubescreamer. I owned a CE-2 for a long while, but was never that keen on the pronounced mid-boost that it added - I play an Epiphone semi-acoustic, so I've got plenty of mids already, thank-you. I sold the CE-2 for silly money, even though it's only MIT, but as soon as I let it go, I was on the look out for another analog chorus: This popped up, and I bought it. It's got a similar-ish sound to the Boss, maybe a little less depth when max'ed. I love it because it adds a nice subtle chorus shimmer, but without taking over the guitar sound. |

PH-1r's are great, I love mine. Especially with bass guitar, but I keep the resonance low for a more classic phase sound. |
