| I'd say the DD-7. It's the best all-around delay pedal, with enough functions to suit many needs. The DD-3 is also very good and sometimes it's all that you need. Here the difference between the DD-3 and the DD-7 was only $ 40 so I got the DD-7. But I also got a DD-3 and originally that's what I was looking for but it sells for $ 140 here and the DD7 for 180 so the decision was easy. |

| If you can find one afford one either Boss DM-2 or DM-3 Echo Delay Pedal. But if can't than yeah the MXR Carbon Copy is a good choice. |

If you are looking for (or don't mind) digital then the DD-7 is a great all rounder. It has plenty of different modes which cover everything from a short slap-back sort of delay up to 3200ms (double that in mono). It also includes an analog emulator (not as good as the real thing but not bad) and a reverse delay, which can be quite an interesting and useable effect.
The DD-7 has stereo in and out and by varying which in/outs you use, it changes the effect (ie input A only will give you stereo panning out, input B only will give you split wet & dry outputs, input A and output B only gives you double the delay time...)
One other thing to consider is that the DD-7 has effect trail off when you turn the effect off (i find this usefull - some people hate it). I think the DD-5 (?) just cuts the effect as soon as you turn it off.

Depends on what you need as well..i find you can get bored quickly with too much bells and whistles on pedals that you end up never using...if your a delay freak go for something like the DD-20 or even the eventide delay pedal,if you only need a few repeats on a solo or for ambience the DD-3 might do you, plus it seems to be coming down in secondhand prices...personally i use two DD-3's on my board...the tap tempo option of the later boss delays would be nice but i know my delay times pretty well by know so it's not a big problem for me,plus the DD-3 is tough and handles constant gigging easily....the older ones(to my ears anyway) are less digital and more analogue sounding on the repeats,i have both and both get well used every gig for different things......... |

HOwdy! I would say, get both analog and digital. spend some on the analog to get a good one. you can always find a good digital cheap. digitals are good if you want some sharper repeats, which is useful sometimes. Analog is by far more musical and more versatile. Boss re201 is a very good unit if you cant get hold on DM-2 or DM-3. Good luck...luck..luck..luck..uck..ck.... |

| The DD-7 is my favorite do it all delay- sounds very good and not too many bells and whistles which can become a distraction. I had a DD-20 and it was really too much delay for me, plus I think the DD-7 sounds slightly better, especially the analog mode which I really like. Not as nice sounding as a good analog delay, but the features are great, looper is simple and excellent. |

| Wow... it really seems that the forum is divided into two distinct camps on this one! Either a DD-7 or a decent analogue... Either way I'm quite interested to see which way guitarMAD goes (and why). |

If you play along with synths & sequencers and need do match tempos exact then get a DD20.
If you want non Boss then get something with midi sync such as Eventide.
Otherwise any delay box will do. |

IMO the best sounding delays are the DM-2 and the DM-3...for pure warmth nothing else comes close, and I've tried them all!
Honorable mention however does go to the RE-20. |

analog delays are warmer sounding but limited in their versatility. basically, you can't do as much but you'll sound better doing it. the downside of them is the price. DM-2/DM-3 or an ibanez AD9 are the ones i've preferred.
the DD-7 definitely tops the versatility list, but it costs nearly as much as a DM-3/AD9.
for digital, imo, the DD-3 is probably the best value as these can often be purchased used for fairly cheap. i think the DD-3 sounds better than the DD-5/DD-6, but it has less features, although it does have most of the features most people will actually use.

| Better DD-2 than DD-3 for having a hotter and less digital sound |

| The DM-2 is the cat's meow, the bee's knees and the wasp's nipples. |
